Documentation/Installation

Newertech's cards come with a well documented and illustrated instruction manual for the various systems supported, an anti-static strap for installation of your CPU upgrade, the software extension and control panel to enable the G3 upgrade.  The instruction manual itself is complete with clear photographs, and concise instructions for installing the card.  The instruction manual that came with the G3 upgrade for G3 computers is equally well done and clear.

Installation consists simply of installing the software, shutting down your system, and then swapping out the CPU cards and pressing the motherboard reset button.  Operation is completely transparent with the exception of the MacOS startup screen which displays Newer's logo underneath.  At this point you can open the control panel and make any adjustments to the cache ratio and memory speed.  All changes take place immediately so there is no need to reboot.

The individual steps listed here are for the 9600 case, and should give you some idea for the labor involved in installing the upgrade in your system.

  1. Make sure the system is powered off.
  2. Unplug the power cable (needed to fully open the case).
  3. Remove the side cover/top cover.
  4. Touch a metal part of the chassis to discharge any static buildup you have or better yet use the included anti-static strap.
  5. Release the two green locking levers and flip the case open.
  6. Newer recommends reinstalling the powercord at this point.
  7. Remove the original CPU card.
  8. Press the motherboard reset button.
  9. Install the G3 upgrade card.
  10. Close the case.
  11. Restart the computer.
Total time required for installation is about 10 minutes.

Warranty:

The warranty on this card is a limited two year warranty (better than the warranty you get from Apple).
