Bob Snow sent a report with benchmark and battery test results on his new PB2400 G3 CPU Upgrade:
"
HI Mike,
I just bought and installed a Newer 240/120 512k upgrade for my 2400. What a deal at $430! I would not recommend anyone do this install themselves. By far the most difficult install I have ever done. Makes the Duo seem like child's play. [See the CPU Cards page or FAQ Powerbook section for a link to a page with an illustrated guide to upgrading the 2400-Mike] Works great, but cut's down on battery life. I have set my
machine to turn off the backside cache when running on the battery and this seems to provide the same battery life as before the upgrade.
| MacBench 5.0 | 603e/180Mhz (stock) | G3 240/160 | G3/240 (cache off) |
| Processor | 269 | 604 | 293 |
| Floating Pt. | 333 | 799 | 656 |
| Disk | 381 | 818 | 678 |
| Battery | 60min | 40min | 60min |
Now my 8600 has a MaxPowr 250/125 512k running at 266/177. My 2400 has the NuPowr running at 240/160 and I have a MaxPowr 300/150 512k L2 slot upgrade for my TAM pre-ordered through upgradeStuff. I have had no compatibility issues with my two Newer upgrades. I am hoping the Newer L2 upgrade proves to be better than the buggy Sonnet.

Reports say the Vimage PB 1400/2400 CPU Upgrades use less power in sleep mode than the Newer Tech models.
