The Final Word

The PowerForce G3 220/110 breaks new ground in price/performance, and is the first G3 CPU based card to sell for under $500 [as of Dec 98 - it's available for under $330!]. With the competition offering far less speed options and a $170+ higher price, I'll let you decide which card is the better value.

Adjustable speed cards (at least those with the kind of range the PowerForce design has) are not for everyone or every system, but it's tough not to recommend a card with more speed potential and a 25% lower price than the competition.

If you've waited for a low cost G3 card that's truly affordable and offers amazing performance, look no further. Use the $170 savings to buy a 64 MB dimm (with change left over) - a very smart move.

Price/Performance:
I can't say if my experience will be typical of every PowerForce 220/110 owner, but considering the fact it ran 291/116 rock solid, performed well in applications and has a suggested price of $499 - you'd flame me for giving the card any less than a 10 on value.

Watch the competition lower their prices when this one hits the streets.

Total: TBD (awaiting documentation to review)

Based on these scores, you can apply your own weighting of each category to determine if this card is right for your needs.

Based on the under $500 price and very good performance it's obvious the PowerForce G3 220/110 is an amazing value. For those who have waited for an affordable G3 CPU card, your upgrade has arrived. Isn't competition grand?

Where To Buy:
PowerLogix states they are just starting to ship this card to dealers. At the date of this review (April 98) the suggested retail price of the 220/110 card is $499, but as regular readers of my daily news page know both Bottom Line and MacGurus often offer my readers discounts and special offers.

Other PowerLogix dealers are listed at PowerLogix's Order Page. Return policies vary by dealer, so be sure to ask about this before ordering. The product comes with PowerLogix's standard 3-year warranty, regardless of the CPU speed used.

I hope this review has provided you with sufficient information of all aspects of the product, but if you have any further questions or comments you may contact me by email at: news@xlr8yourmac.com.
