XLR8 CarrierZIF image!
CarrierZIF 60 to 66MHz Bus Speed Settings
By Anthony Saxton
Published: 8/12/99

DISCLAIMER: XLR8 does not endorse or support these settings. 60MHz+ bus speeds will not be reliable on most Macs (Powercenter Pros are a possible exception). Bus speeds add little to G3 card real performance in most applications, so concentrate on reliability instead of trying to run the ragged edge of stability which could cost you precious data, lost time and possible hardware failures.

Officially the CarrierZIF manual documents only bus speeds from 40 to 60MHz, but a reader did some investigation and discovered additional settings up to 66MHz:

"Mike,
I have a PowerCenter that originally had a clock speed of 60.2MHz. Naturally, I assumed that PowerComputing made there specs a bit better than that though. Unfortunately, XLR8 didn't take into account bus speeds above 60MHz. I charted the current switch setups and came up with an extension to the current chart. You will find the chart attached (in html format). You're welcome to post it where appropriate!

About The Table:

In the table below the 'Jumpers' row refers to XLR8 ZIFs that have jumpers on the ZIF module, some models rely on the CarrierZIF for Bus/CPU ratio (as do many OEM/Apple ZIFs). The Blue column lists bus speeds; adjacent to it are the switch settings for those speeds. I've not verified this personally yet but thank Anthony for the info!
