HP's OS X Printer Driver Update Info and Download Link:
Last Updated: 5/25/2001, 6:40 PM
I received a long email from HP on a new OS X printer driver update not yet on their web site. Included in the mail are direct download links and a complete listing of the ReadMe file with notes and known issues.

" Our website won't be updated until next week, but our Deskjet OS X 1.0 drivers are available NOW on our ftp site. I gave the go-ahead to list them, and figured your readers would want to hear about it! We're pretty excited to get this out there.

There's a total of 4 files out there - 2 for Japanese, 2 for World Wide (English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Dutch). Each file comes in either Apple Disk Image format (.DMG) or Stuffit format (.SIT.HQX). It's important that Japanese readers get directed to the Japanese installer, since the WW installers won't be localized for them (the installed files WILL be localized, however).

= hp deskjet WW.dmg

= hp deskjet JPN.dmg

= hp deskjet WW.sit.hqx

= hp deskjetJPN.sit.hqx

Known issues

Mac OS X will not allow you to choose two printers of the same model when connected via USB. You will only be able to select and use only one of your printers. HP is working with Apple to correct this in a future OS X update.

Feature differences between Mac OS 8/9 and X printing

The following features of the OS 8/9 software are not available with the OS X software. HP and Apple are working to add them to future releases:

AppleTalk printing
Custom paper sizes
Two-sided printing
Back-to-front printing
Booklet printing
Poster printing
Rotate 180?
Mirror image printing
ColorSync support Black & White printing Multiple saved settings Automatic image enhancements

Other printing tips
Mac OS X does not automatically select the printer specific Page Setup settings for the selected printer. You will need to go to page setup for each document and select your printer. This will ensure correct margins for your hp deskjet printer.

Selecting "preview" from the print dialog will not reflect all print settings, including color, pages per sheet and quality.

Be sure to load paper according to the instructions in the user manual. If the paper is not properly loaded, the printed image may be skewed on the page.

Notes about specific applications
The following list describes some special situations that you should be aware of when working with specific applications. (There may be other problems with these applications or with other applications not mentioned in this document.) If you have problems printing from a specific application, it may be a problem in that application. If you have problems, contact the publisher of the application. In some cases a newer, more compatible version of the software may be available.

The Preview application will attempt to scale images and text to fit your page size. If the accuracy of the printed image size is important, use another application.

The TextEdit application will attempt to scale images and text to fit your page size. If the accuracy of the printed image size is important, use another application.
