| EyeTV 1.2 Update |
Spotted the EyeTV 1.2 update at Macupdate, dated yesterday at ElGato's site. "
EyeTV 1.2 now has Italian and Spanish localization. We have also included a bug fix that affected users running OS 10.2.4.
EyeTV now offers editing of your recordings. Delete commercials, or save your favorite clips as QuickTime movies.
EyeTV will now wake or power up your system to record shows. This feature only works with Mac OS 10.2 or later.
"
I've added this driver update to the previous page of EyeTV owner reports.

| Virex 7.2.1 Update for .Mac subscribers |
Versiontracker today lists the Virex 7.2.1 update for .mac subscribers noting it fixes an issue for those with Virex and Fink installed. You have to login to the apple .mac site to download the update (and as of 11:30 AM Eastern Time it was not listed in the main .mac sidebar of updates - but is listed on the Virex download page there, both English and Japanese 7.2.1 downloads available.)
Note: I updated my previous v7.2 (eUpdate) version and after running 7.2.1 it noted my virus defs were from Nov. 2002, not recognizing the many later def updates applied under the previous version.

| Free War of Infamy TC mod for Mac Ghost Recon |
| (I don't own Mac Ghost Recon but for those that do here's an email announcement from Jason T.)
"This is to announce the immediate availability of War of Infamy 2.1 for the Macintosh. War of Infamy 2.1 is a total conversion for Ghost Recon. It allows the
player to select from British, Canadian, American, or German troops and do battle in World War II era missions.
War of Infamy 2.1 includes dozens of new characters, weapons, sound effects, and vehicles. War of Infamy 2.1 is a freeware expansion and requires a full version of Ghost Recon in order to play.
Other requirements are:
- Mac Ghost Recon updated to version 1.4
- Mac OS X
War of Infamy 2.1: Mac is available for download at:
http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/11456 (88MB download)
For more info and screenshots of War of Infamy 2.1, please see the
official War of Infamy website at: http://www.warofinfamy.com/
"
Note: when I tried to download using the top D/L link at the Macupdate page it displayed the file in the browser (IE 5.2.x in OS X) - trying a "save as" instead but I wonder about the file type on the server (if the downloaded file will be usable - don't have the full game here yet) . The 2nd D/L link resulted in error messages about the server being overloaded but will try again later.

| Reader Comments on Interactual Mac DVD player on Harry Potter Chamber of Secrets DVD |
"Another tidbit of news...
I bought the Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets DVD today (widescreen)
and it has a .dmg file on it that contains a MacOS version of Interactual's
DVD Player Software. I have tested it on MacOS X, but not on MacOS 9. It
looks quite similar to Apple's DVD Player, with a few features missing and a
few added. People are often asking about options for DVD Player software
for the Mac. Just thought I would let you know about this one.
Thanks for running a great site!
Chris D."
I wonder if this player relies on Apple DVD support files
or if it supports a pre-Rage128 graphics chip (where the Apple player requires a rage128 or later graphics chip/card.) If any reader with an older graphics chip (not supported by the Apple DVD player, like a RagePro or RageII) tries this player let me know if it works with the older graphics chips.
I once had a PC that had that player/addon installed (from the Matrix DVD I think) and from then on it was the default DVD app, and didn't have all the features of WinDVD (it seemed more ad/marketing focused - but not sure what the Mac version is like).

| Another MDD G4 USB 2.0 Driver report on Orange Micro drivers not compatible |
| Another report as a follow-up to yesterday's news items on possible USB 2.0 drivers for NEC USB 2.0 chip based MDD G4/1.25-1.42GHz models. A Dual 1.25GHz MDD owner noted the same (major) problem mentioned yesterday by a MDD Dual 1GHz owner (which did not have the NEC chip)
"Hi Mike,
I posted this in the BBS this (yesterday) afternoon :
Trying that new Orange Micro USB 2 driver on my FW 800 dual 1.25 Gz Mac (without an Orange Micro card, but with the "good" NEC controller) did not work. Not work = my Mac would no longer would boot up at all. Lucky for me I had seen this before (playing with a SanDisk USB 2 6-in-1 reader and installing a USB 2 driver that was unneeded in 10.2.5) and had another OS X drive to boot off of internally. That Orange Micro package does NOT leave a nice clean log file to tell you just what it did, but I was able to find the .kext files that had been changed and can now boot again (with USB 1.1 internal ports - sigh).
-- Joseph "
Another related email:
"Hi Mike,
Just FYI for your readers. Yes, loading incorrect kernel extensions can
leave your Mac into an unbootable state. Usually, you can fix this by going
into single-user mode (Cmd-s during reboot); fsck the disk while your
/System/Library/Extensions directory (usually your root--/--partition) is
mounted in read-only mode; remounting it as read-write; removing the
extensions; then reboot. When you get into single-user mode, it has part of
this procedure displayed.
With that in mind, to see if things work, you'd only need to install the
EHCI extension. Rebooting in verbose mode (Cmd-v) will probably give a good
indication if it has problems. To check if the driver is actually working,
run the "ioreg" command within Terminal to see if the device has an
associated driver attached. Ken L.

The Firewire articles page also has guides on case kits, installing drives, etc. If you've added a IDE, SCSI, Firewire or USB hard drive, CDRW, tape drive, etc. make sure you add a report to the database. (If you post an updated entry - make sure you use the same name, etc. as you did before so I can find your past entry. Thanks.)
(Incomplete entries are deleted. Do not post questions in the database, it's for drive reports not questions on what drive to buy - for that try searching the database for reports from owners of your mac model on the drive type/brand/interface, etc. you're interested in.)
