PowerMac G5 Coolant Leaks page updated
I've updated the page on PowerMac G5 Coolant Leaks again with another report of a leaking (Delphi LCS) G5 tower. (Hopefully Apple will replace it with a Mac Pro as they've done for some other readers... (although some were not free). Kudos to them for that, although not everyone in the past was so lucky, lately more seem to be so.)

    Mac Drive Upgrades/Compatibility Database Updated
The Mac Drive/Storage Upgrades Database had more 7 reports added today. (Still working on a backlog of mails on these.) Current total - 16,396. (Searching by drive type/brand, mac model etc. listed below will show the full reports, most recent first)

Blu-Ray Drives: (reports from news page Wed. added to db.)
    • SATA (onboard) LG GGW-H20L in Mac Pro (OS X 10.5.2)
(problems noted w/Toast 9.02 burn hangs - this model also had problems w/Toast 8.x. Using USB or FW adapters/cases a suggested workaround)
    • SATA (onboard) Panasonic SW-5583 in Mac Pro (OS X 10.5.2)

      DVD+R/RW + DVD-R/RW Drives:
    • IDE Lite-on DH-20A3P-12C in G4/AGP Tower (OS X 10.2.x)
(noted using Toast for burning - for iApps burn support would require patchburn for pre-OS X tiger use)
    • IDE Matshita (panasonic) UJ-875-S in MacBook Pro (OS X 10.5.2)
(Panasonic drives filed under Matshita brand name usually as that's the brand reported by ASP)
    • IDE Pioneer DVR-115D in Mac Pro (OS X 10.5.2)

      Hard Drives:
    • SATA (onboard) Samsung HM250JI 250GB in (17in) MacBook Pro (OS X 10.5.x)
(some issues seen - noted using -008 firmware which last year was reported to fix (major) issues with this drive and earlier firmware. Ref: August 2007 post with Guide to Firmware Update/Fix for Samsung HM250JI 250GB Notebook HD Issues)
    • IDE Seagate ST340810A in (rev 2) BW G3 (OS X 9.2)
(Systems/IDE topics page has upgrade guides, notes on rev 1 logic board IDE chip flaw, etc.)

You can read full reports (latest shown first) by searching the database by drive/brand/interface/mac models (the latest reports are shown first in searches). The database includes reports on Optical Drives (Blu-Ray, DVD, CD/CDR, etc.), Hard Drives, Tape drives, Removable media (ORB, ZIP, MO drives), NAS (Network Attached Storage), in all interface types (IDE, SATA, Firewire, SCSI, USB, adapters).
If you've added/upgraded a drive in your Mac send me the details (drive info/speed rating/mac model/OS used, etc.). Note: Please use the drive for at least a week before reporting on it and test for booting from Disc with Optical Drives (as well as burning discs). Thanks.
