Unsupported version of MacVoodoo 1.1.3b drivers in the "Gimme your
email" thread. [NOTE: This thread has now been removed from their forums as of 12/20/2000 You have to post a reply to that message with your email address included-Mike]
I did it, they sent me email (AppleVoodoo), I downloaded the drivers,
they seem to work. I am about to download it for my V5.
Note in another thread that Ray says they aren't the 'final' version,
but at this point I'll take whatever i can get and look forward to
the final version.

How to Run Quake3 Team Arena (Full Version) on a Mac:
If you own the retail (PC) Quake3 Team Arena CD, dragging the MissionPak folder (in the setup folder) on the CD to the 1.27 updated Quake3 Folder will allow running the game. Run the 1.27 MacQuake3debug app and then select Mods - the MissionPak should appear as an option. Once the Team Arena screen appears, select Options, then enter the CD Key (on the CD case).

Mac Quake3 1.27 Beta is Released!
Eli Block sent a note that the eagerly awaited Mac Quake3 update is available now. (For the latest version check ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/quake3/mac/.) For those wanting to compare Demo FPS scores (please run a demo _before_ the update, then after and let me know what improvement you see)
here's a comment from the readme file:
"
Known Issues (1.27 beta)
- Launching demos from the user interface does not work. To play a demo back, go to the console and type "demo demofilename" without the quotes. This is a bug that cropped up when we changed the extension for demos so they include the protocol number so demos show up properly in menus. This will be addressed in a later patch. "
Please post your Q3 FPS scores in the Mac Game/FPS database entry page.

Under $30 PCI Firewire Card:
In response to the post in yesterday's news on $49.xx PCI Firewire cards, Joe Stribling
sent word he's using a $29.xx Aten Technologies Phoenix DMA 3-Port FireWire PCI Card fine in his Beige G3. He said he bought the card at his local Microcenter and said it worked well in iMovie 2. (He noted having to delete iMovie 1 and its prefs file to use iMovie 2. On my G4, I have both iMovie 1 and 2 installed and can run either.)
[Note: some retail stores may have $29.xx PCI FW cards also - I've seen similar prices on
Dlink, etc. FW cards in some chain stores.]

Feedback on Apple CPU Plugins v2.7 Update for Dual G4 Systems:
Several readers sent comments on the CPU Plugins v2.7 update for Dual G4 systems noted in yesterday's news. (Available via OS 9's Software Updates control panel.) The update reportedly fixes the sleep/freeze issue some reported with Dual G4 systems. (One reader said v2.5 didn't have this issue, only v2.6). If your Dual G4 does not show the Plugins update using the Software Updates control panel (two reports of this so far), I've listed the URL for the download page at Apple on the CPU Plugins Comments page.
