Apple CPU Plugins v2.8 (G4 Dual Processor)
Derrick Yamaura wrote that the AppleShare IP 9.0.4 Update released today contains Apple CPU Plugin v2.8. (v2.7 was released separately earlier this week.) This extension is only used by Dual Processor machines. Derrick said it's contained within a tome, and can be extracted with TomeViewer (direct download link). Apple CPU Plugins v2.8 is contained within the ONLY tome on the image. It's in Software Installers: AppleShareIP Update: Tome.

7 More OEM Cube Radeon Cards at Ebay:
This is the 3rd time that Dentec has offered OEM AGP Radeon 32MB graphics cards (the fan model for the G4 Cube). [Auction page link removed after it ended] The auction ends on Dec-22-00 08:15:29 PST.

As I commented on in the previous auctions (this 12/8/00 news item and this 12/15/00 news item), these cards are the fan equipped G4 Cube versions (but would also fit G4 towers). Note that only G4 Cubes and G4 Gigabit Ethernet macs have the 28 volt connector on the motherboard to power the ADC port, but the VGA port would work in any AGP slot Mac of course. For Cube owners that bought before the BTO Radeon's were offered, this is the only Radeon card that fits (the retail Radeon card is too tall). If you're curious as to how the Radeon BTO/OEM card compares to the Rage128 Pro AGP, see my performance comparison article. For tests of the retail Radeon card, see this review.

Several readers replied they have gotten their cards from the last auction. The cards ship without drivers but you can get the ATI 1.0 Radeon driver update at ATI's drivers page. The card also requires the AGP bracket (end of card bracket) from an existing card.

Feedback on 3dfx Driver v1.1.3 beta (incl. Download Location):
Several readers sent comments on the "unofficial" 1.1.3 beta driver release noted in yesterday's news. One reader noted 2xFSAA issues in the Rune Demo (only), another noted screenshots now work better in games, better SNES/Rave support, better monitor/resolution support, etc. (Remember to open the control panel after updating the drivers and rebooting to flash the new ROM). All the comments are listed on the 1.1.3 beta drivers feedback page. Since the 3dfxgamers forum message noted yesterday has been deleted, the details page lists the direct download page info (if that stays up...).

Firewire ADS Pyro Web Cam for $119.99 w/Free Overnight Shipping:
Outpost.com has the ADS firewire Webcam listed on special today for $119.99 with free overnight delivery (in the USA). [Note: Outpost later changed their shipping policy - see their web site for their latest shipping prices/policies and product availability.] The product page lists the specs, features and software included as well as a compatibility note for Powerbook Firewire models:

" Important Note: At this time there is an incompatibility between all Texas Instruments based web cams (Pyro Webcam) and the built-in FireWire port on a PowerBook G3(Pismo) laptops made before June/July of 2000. PowerBook G3 (Pismo) laptops made after July of 2000 used a different chip, which corrected this issue. Apple and Texas Instruments are currently looking into a solution that will allow the camera to function in the older PowerBook G3 laptops, however at this time the only workaround is to use a FireWire CardBus card and attach the Pyro Wevb cam to it on a powered FireWire bus.
