| More Hints of 3G iPhones at MWSF |
| (from a reader mail today)
"Totally unconfirmable
However, thought I'd share this anyhow. I was signing up for a new account with AT&T for wireless service for my business. I had tried to sort out the packages available on-line, but decided to call their 800 number to make sure I got what I needed and not some weid collection of overlapping packages.Anyhow, I replaced my personal cell last month with an iPhone and while choosing phones for my work mentioned in passing that I figured Apple would add the 3G capability soon, maybe spring, since I had just bought one. (I have the worst timing for this stuff.) The representative said, "Well, it won't be that long. They're supposed to be introduced in January." So, there you go. A totally unconfirmable report that Apple will indeed add 3G to the iPhone in a few weeks... figures.

| Some Leopard users reporting DVD Player problems |
| I've not seen any DVD player problems in Leopard (OS X 10.5.1) so far on an AL iMac and G5 Tower, but here's a reader mail and link to an Apple forum thread on problems some have seen. (In fact last night I played a damaged (garage sale) DVD of "1408" that froze between chapters 13-14 on 2 home DVD players - on the iMac the DVD Player displayed "Skipping over damaged area" and continued playing.)
"DVD Player issues in Leopard
After updating to 10.5.1 (though even people with 10.5 have the problem) the behavior started. Launch DVD Player, or have it set to automatically launch, and it will give you the message described in the first post (Apple Forum thread DVD Player ERROR). Dismiss the error message, and DVD Player will quit.... Apple has no cure other than to perform an A&I. I just use VLC instead. Fine for now.
-Bob"
I asked if he had tried reinstalling 10.5.1 from the download updater, creating a new user acct/logging in as that acct (to check for user addons/corrupted prefs). (Also check the system logs for related info and try a force rebinding using the terminal - i.e. "sudo update_prebinding -force -root /" then reboot.)
As mentioned earlier, the Leopard DVD player notes at Apple mention a 1.6GHz or faster CPU reqd for the improved deinterlacing option.
BTW - I don't know if this is new or not (the last time I played a DVD movie in OS X was in 10.3.x on a PB G4) but I noticed when playing a DVD in Leopard on the iMac that moving the mouse to the top of the screen (when playing in full-screen mode) there's new options (not in menu bar), including individual movie chapter thumbnails (selections). The chapter listing is almost like the chapter/scene options with HD-DVD movies (but HD-DVD movie/players also many more advanced features of course.)
