| Apple doc with info on Security Update 2007-009 v1.1 |
| Apple has now posted a doc About Security Update 2007-009 v1.1 (released earlier tonight - see below). Here's info from the About Doc:
"Security Update 2007-009 v1.1 addresses an issue introduced in Security Update 2007-009 that may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit when browsing to certain websites.
There is no change to the security content provided in Security Update 2007-009. The security content of Security Update 2007-009 and Security Update 2007-009 v1.1 is available here.
Security Update 2007-009 v1.1 will install over Security Update 2007-009, and its installation is recommended to resolve the Safari issue.
Systems that have not yet installed Security Update 2007-009 only need to install Security Update 2007-009 v1.1."
I applied the update (from the download link below) on a 10.5.1/refurb AL iMac. Seems ok so far. (I had Safari quit once earlier today viewing a website heavy with flash/video - a Forbes article IIRC (although I had a half dozen other pages loaded also). Just out of routine I did a force prebinding from the terminal again and ran a verify/repair permissions. Unlike the last post-update run, this time it showed some additional java.vm frameworks user differences (on jvg.cfg and classlist) - the first repair attempt did not clear those but a 2nd repair did. |

| Freeverse free game offer, reminder to give to those in Need |
| (from a Freeverse PR mail this morning)
"
The Mac Spirit of Giving. Freeverse today announced that it is offering a free copy of the Macworld "Eddy" award-winning game, Wingnuts 2, to any family in need this holiday season.
Those who might otherwise struggle to afford the game, can simply send an email to Gift@freeverse.com between now and December 26th telling us about the best gift you ever gave. We'll send you a download link and registration code for Wingnuts 2.
Ian Lynch Smith, President of Freeverse, said "The Mac community has given us a livelihood these last 14 years, and all of us here are truly grateful for that. Games are meant to be played, and meant to be given. We're happy to offer this game to any Mac user who can't afford it this Christmas."
Wingnuts 2 requires Mac OS X 10.4 or higher, an 800Mhz or faster G4, G5 or Intel Mac.
Those with older systems may download the original Wingnuts, which is also free.
For any questions or inquiries, please contact Brian Akaka (akaka@freeverse.com).

Not to get on a soapbox, but for families truly in need (that don't even have a computer to run a game on) - please consider a personally delivered donation of food, clothing or toys for their children. I prefer this over giving to a large organization as you can personally see how it brightens a child or family's christmas. It doesn't take that much (relatively) to really make a difference. |

| Mac CPU Upgrade Reports Database Updated |
| The Rate Your CPU Upgrade database has been updated with 2 more reports this morning. Total to date: 10,335. Here's a summary of the latest addition (search database by upgrade brand, mac model, etc. for a complete list/comments of all user reports on matching criteria - latest reports first).
- Newer Tech G4/1.7GHz (7448) in (Digital Audio) G4/AGP tower (rated 9)
- Powerlogix G4/1.6GHz (7447A) in (Sawtooth) G4/AGP tower (rated 9)
(Full reviews of G4 and G3 upgrades compared to stock CPUs, including real world apps/game tests, install info, etc. are linked at the G4 upgrade reviews and G3 upgrade reviews pages. OC/CPU module articles are on the Systems page.)
If you've upgraded the CPU on your Mac, send a review with your experience (performance/stability/installation, etc.), Mac Model/Upgrade brand info and overall rating (1= worst to 10=best). If you can, please run some tests with the original CPU vs the upgrade (for example time some tests with your favorite app, game, etc. - see full reviews here for example tests with common apps/games/benchmarks.)
