Drobo Dashboard 1.6.6 update (perf. issue fix, plus 64-bit Snow Leopard Support)
Follow-up from one of the readers that had previously reported on the problems with Drobo Dashboard 1.6.1/1.6.0:
"Drobo released a new version of their Mac driver and dashboard app - version 1.6.6.
http://www.drobo.com/support/updates.php
(Here's PDF of v1.6.6 release notes)
I've only been running it for a couple of hours, but so far it looks like it fixed the leak that caused the slowdown.
Even better, it now supports running in the 64-bit kernel! Now if only Sonnet would get their act together, I'd be able to get both my backup and high-speed external storage running in 64-bit mode.
(I asked what Sonnet card he has)
It's a Tempo E4P. They originally promised 64-bit drivers back at the end of the summer, then said October, then November, now January! Oh well, I work in software myself, so I know how this happens...
Regards, Hugh"

Apple adds 3.33GHz option to Quad-Core Mac Pros (and 2TB HDs, plus Xserve ADM/RAM upgrades)
Eddie sent a note that Apple has added a 3.33GHz option to the Quad-Core (single CPU - Xeon 3500 series) Mac Pro. (The tech specs page has been updated to reflect that.) The 3.33GHz CPU option adds $1200 to the base (single) 2.66GHz model, $800 more than the 2.93GHz option. 2.93GHz is still the top speed option for the Dual-CPU (Xeon 5500 series) models.
(Still hoping it won't be too long before we see new graphics card options - a Mac Radeon 5870 for instance.)
I didn't notice it earlier but there's also 2TB (7200rpm) HD options ($350 upgrade cost from base 640GB HD, $550 each for additional drives - ouch).
And Apple also added 2TB (7200rpm) ADM options ($450 upgrade from base 160GB, $550 for 2nd/3rd bay ADMs) and 4GB dimm options to the Xserve - up to 24GB ($2850 upgrade from base 3GB) on the single CPU model, up to 48GB ($5,850 upgrade from base 3GB) for the dual-cpu Xserve. (They've revised the doc today on Xserve, Xserve RAID: Apple Drive Module (ADM) compatibility for the new 2TBs.)
