| FYI/Warning to Mac Users on 'The Hangover' DVD Digital Copy (and others) |
I've had several readers send angry mails regarding the "Digital Copy" noted on standard DVD versions of "The Hangover" Movie released at retail stores yesterday. Since nobody keeps a magnifying glass with them to read the 'fine print' on the "Digital Copy" sticker, after getting the DVD home buyers found out there's no Digital Copy Disc included - only a flyer with a Warner Bros code for a windows media digital copy download. (Of course this isn't unique to this title, it's just one of the latest 'hot' movies just released and many see that "digital copy" on the std DVD and snap it up.)
I doubt they'll be able to return it (once opened) for a refund... (If not, I'd try Handbrake/VLC.)
I've seen some other titles like this (readers also mentioned Gran Torino, Terminator: Salvation, The Clone Wars) and I have seen in the past required a small fee (under $2 IIRC) for the WMP digital copy.
Anyway, just posting as a FYI to always check the fine print on any "digital copy" sticker before buying.
(Most of my DVD collection were bought used from $1 to $5 (Big Lots, garage sales, rental store 'previously viewed', etc.). And I've gotten some great deals at a local pawn shop - DVDs are $4 there and I bought seasons of 'Deadwood' for about $25 (twice - within a month of their release). And several seasons of Sopranos for $9.95 each at a local thrift shop where some store must have went out of business and donated the stock - still had the shrink wrap on them.) |

64-bit H.264 Video Decoder:
EyeTV 3.3 now runs the H.264 video decoder as a 64-bit process. The H.264 video decoder is by far the most CPU-intensive part of EyeTV, and moving it to 64-bit has improved playback performance on Intel Macs with 64-bit processors by 10-20%.

Drop Field Deinterlacing:
There is a new "Drop Field" deinterlacing option in the Display preferences of EyeTV. This option is recommended for users who want to enjoy HDTV on a slower computer.

Airfoil and EyeTV from Elgato now work great together - when transmitting audio from EyeTV, Airfoil will adjust the local video to play in sync with remote audio!
Pulling audio from VMWare Fusion or Parallels Desktop is now much simpler - simply set Fusion or Desktop as the source in Airfoil's Source pop-up, and Airfoil will handle the rest.
A bug where transmitting Front Row without Instant Hijack installed would fail silently, instead of presenting an error, has been fixed.
