Another (Unibody) MacBook user's notes/benchmarks of WD 750GB Scorpio HD |
Due to the length, I've posted the latest reader feedback on this drive in a Unibody MacBook on a separate page. [FYI - he later replied to my comments on SMS - wrote he had Apple's SMS enabled, but has now disabled it as the drive has a built-in shock sensor.] Includes a recap on topics like clicking, load cycle counts, apm tweaks, SMS, etc as well as his Xbench results with the 750GB (5200rpm) vs his previous 500GB (5400rpm) Scorpio in the same Macbook. (The bottom of the page includes a copy of previous reports from Dec. 9th news as well.) |

Quad-Core 2.93GHz 2009 Mac Pro owner's CPU Core Temperature Tests (OS X vs Windows) |
Since the original apple forum thread has degraded into a flame war almost, I've added a summary of the tests/results from a 2009 Mac Pro Quad-Core 2.93GHz owner that had seen core temps hit 96C (w/thermal shutdown) in some tests to the reports section of the previous page here on the subject of 2009 Mac Pro high CPU core temperatures during OS X audio playback.
I also wrote him to ask if he'd use HWInfo32 in Windows to monitor his core clock speeds to a) see what speeds they're running by default and b) if during any stress tests they ever reduce down from "turbo mode" to the CPU's "rated" speed. (As I noted earlier on that page, even after repeated CineBench R10 MP render tests (using all cores) in Windows my dual 2.66GHz's cores still didn't drop to less than 2.8GHz. I didn't monitor them during any long stress tests however - not had time to test that yet. They default to 2.92xGHz (on both CPUs) per HWInfo32.)
(And if anyone knows of an OS X utility that will report/monitor the Nehalem's Core clock rates, let me know.) |
