More 2008 Mac Pro owner feedback (replaced systems, clean OS reinstalls helping...)
At midnight last night I updated the 2008 Mac Pro owner feedback page with follow-ups from a reader that hasn't seen any problems since a clean OS/reinstall (and pram zap), a note from a reader that had two new Mac Pros with non-functioning Firewire ports (OS reinstall solved it for one system), a single CPU owner notes on getting a replacement (after reporting repeated freezes/graphics corruption) who said so far it's been reliable. (Unlike 2 earlier reports that their replacement system eventually showed the same problems.)

Follow-up from Adobe CS suite user that had problems applying Pshop CS3 update
From the reader that had problems applying PS CS3 update with a previous Adobe CS suite. I had written him about the reply that day from another reader that updated OK.

" Yes, I saw it. I think he was saying that updating from CSx to CSx+1 worked for David. And I'm sure it did.
Here's the Stuff from Adobe:
"James, I understand that you have Photoshop CS as a part of Creative Suite and you are unable to upgrade to Photoshop CS3...
I understand your frustration with this issue and apologize for the inconvenience caused.
I regret to inform you that as per Adobe policy, a customer cannot upgrade from a Suite (enter the suite product) or, a point product of a suite, to a point product (enter the point product). I, therefore suggest you to return the product and claim a refund for the same and order the appropriate full version product or upgrade..."

The rest was an offer to refund if I'd like to buy a full version... (CRAP! IMO)
-Jim B."

Personally I'd almost rather take a beating than go through their support... but as I said earlier thankfully they gave me an "override code" for my Photoshop CS3 upgrade when I couldn't find my previous Photoshop CS or Photoshop 7 serial numbers. (About box doesn't show the full number and I could not find the original docs/SN.)

Follow-up from Logic 8/Motu user that had problems after QT 7.4.1 update
After trying reinstalls, etc. he wrote today that clearing the caches (used Leopard cache cleaner) seems to have solved the problem. (BTW - thanks to several other Logic 8 users that wrote they've seen no problems w/QT 7.4.1 update.)
I had no problems with the QWT 7.4.1 update here (on AL iMac w/10.5.1 and 10.3.9 PB G4) but I don't have any 3rd party addons/codecs for QT installed - some readers noted install problems the update and later said they had installed addon codecs (for WMV, etc.). Got a follow-up from one reader like that (G5 tower, had problem with install hanging at the shutdown/restart/writing cache phase - later wrote he finally has it working.)

Iomega Ultramax and MacAlly PHR100ACE drive not playing nice on same FW chain
A G5 tower owner sent a link to his Iomega forum post on Kernel Panics he's seen when copying files to a MacAlly FW400/USB cased drive connected to his new Iomega Ultramax FW800/400 1TB drive. (He mentioned a "USB Dongle" used on the MacAlly drive - required he said to format the drive (security feature)... I've owned lots of FW and FW/USB cases over the years but none had anything like that.) He later wrote with info/link on the MacAlly case w/"security dongle":
" This is the MacAlly case in question which has a 200Gb Seagate Baracuda 7200 ATA 16Mb cache drive inside. Note the "security dongle": MacAlly PHR100ACE
-Bobbi"
