7500 to ATX Case Project Article in Progress
Closely following yesterday's 8600/9600 ATX Power Supply Conversion article is another reader's 7500 to ATX case conversion article which I'm working on now to put into HTML for posting. I hope to have it finished by late tonight or early tomorrow at the latest. (Note: At Midnight I posted the article, which is now linked in the "Old Macs" section of the Systems Articles page.)

ATI PCI Radeon Driver Fix Status:
[Update - see the Video articles page, graphics card section for pages/feedback on later ATI driver releases.]
I don't know when it will be released, but I received some good news on the status of the update to address the Radeon PCI issues noted by readers here and in our forums. Here's a comment from one of ATI's programmers:

"All of us are working flat-out to resolve the issues, and I believe most of them are fixed, including all the OpenGL 3D problems....with no adverse performance effect on PCI or AGP Radeons."

One PCI Radeon owner reported problems in Infini-D 4.5 and with deep sleep mode, and I've passed those along to ATI also. Since the AGP Radeon supported deep sleep (noted in my review), I assumed the PCI version would also. I asked if this reader had any other PCI cards that could be preventing deep sleep.

As far as other driver issues that affected even the AGP Radeon such as the Falcon 4 RAVE bug, that has been fixed in a previous beta release I saw. (That fix may even be in the PCI Radeon drivers already.) I've asked for any estimated availability date for the driver update. I suggested that even a beta version release would be welcome.

Great PowerBook G4 QT Movie Ad:
Apple has another Quicktime movie ad on the irrestible new PowerBook G4 that is definitely worth a look. This one is fairly long and includes comments from users and great shots of the new 'Book. I can't remember ever wanting anything so badly as this new Powerbook. If they were in stock at retailers now I'd have to cut up my credit card to stop me from buying one.
[Update: For PowerBook G4 articles/performance tests - see the PowerBook section of the Systems page.]

Apple TILs on iMac Hard Drive Removal:
Last night's late update to the Apple TIL Updates Listing included a huge number on the iMac, including one covering removing the hard drive. (The guide applies to the iMac G3/350 and up models.) Read the warnings in red as this procedure should only be done by qualified persons. The FAQ's iMac and iBook section have links to other articles/guides on drive upgrades.

DivX Open Source Project:
C/net has an article regarding the next generation of the DivX (they call hacker video) which is open source. The article links to Project Mayo where "OpenDivX" source code is available now. The ProjectMayo Mac page looks like it could use some help. It's not open-source, but a Mac DivX player is available from http://mac.divx.st/. (They note they're working a new codec called 3ivx.)

Rate Your Mac Games (Reader Reviews Database) Updated:
Today's Reader's Rate Their Mac Games database updates included a review of WaterRace (using Nascar Pro Digital 2 Wheel) and another review of Diablo II. Total reviews including all titles is 705. Since each review entry also notes system details like CPU type/speed, RAM and Video card type, these reviews are also good to see how well games play on various Mac models and video cards (important to know before you buy). If you've not already done so enter a game review.
