| Multi-Processor RC5 Benchmark Summary - Incl. Dual G4 1GHz Mac |
(from a reader's email today)
"
Hi Mike,
Somebody listed a G4/1000 DP on the RC5 multi-processor speeds website. I've compiled a summary of some of the fastest chips and converted it into an attached html table. Of course, the G4 wins handily. Your readers might find this interesting/inspiring.

Here's the table Steve sent:

| Reminder on SCSI ORB Drive Tip for OS X |
| (From a drive database entry here)
"
I was having problems mounting my Orb SCSI drive when I updated my G4 400 to OS X. I'm using an Adaptec 2930U SCSI card that Apple installed when I ordered the machine. The drive worked fine with 9.22 but would not mount in OS X or in Classic mode. I e-mailed Castlewood and they suggested that I look on this web site. I saw several suggestions about using the terminal program to uninstall the Adaptec driver. I was unable to uninstall using the suggested scripts. I downloaded the latest driver from Adaptec at
www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/suppbyproduct.html ?cat=/Technology/Macintosh&fromPage=driverindex
They list all of the available drivers for SCSII cards. I downloaded version 1.02 of the driver for the Adaptec 2930 for OS X. Included in the upgrade was an uninstall script. It uninstalled the driver, I rebooted the machine and the ORB mounted right up. I just wish someone else had noticed it earlier, it would have saved me about an hour and a half of time.
Barry V."
This is similar to a previous database report from Nov 29th, 2001. I've also added this to the FAQ's SCSI drive and OS X sections.

For guides to installing CD/CDRW/DVD drives or Hard drives in many mac models, see the IDE Articles page. The Firewire articles page also has guides on case kits, installing drives, etc. If you've added a IDE, SCSI, Firewire or USB hard drive, CDRW, tape drive, etc. make sure you add a report to the database. [If you post an updated entry - make sure you use the same name, etc. as you did before so I can find your past entry. Thanks.]
