| EyeTV v1.1 Software Update/Info on Features Added |
"Hi there,
We've released EyeTV 1.1 software today, download it at:
http://www2.elgato.com/support/eyetv11.hqx
Thanks,
Adam Steinberg
El Gato Software LLC
"
Here's a clip on the changes:
"What's New in This Version?
Editor
The EyeTV application now contains a visual editor for saved recordings. This feature allows you to:
- Delete commercials or any other less desirable content.
- Find your favorite scenes or clips and save them as separate recordings or as QuickTime movies.
- Crop the beginning and end of your shows to adjust for imprecise broadcast times.
- Split shows into segments that fit on Video CDs.
Video CD Playback
EyeTV can now play back individual video tracks on Video CDs. To do so, use the File menu to open the files inside the MPEGAV directory of a video CD (the files are named AVSEQ01.DAT, AVSEQ02.DAT and so on). You can also drag and drop the files onto EyeTV.
Open QuickTime Movie
EyeTV can now play back any QuickTime movie. Use EyeTV's remote control to pause, fast forward, rewind, advance or reverse frame by frame, etc. Present any movie at full screen or scale it to the desired size. QuickTime Pro is not required.
Automated Snapshots
Pressing Command-Shift-C will create a snapshot file on your desktop from the active video window named "EyeTVSnapshot_1.jpg", "EyeTVSnapshot_2.jpg" and so on. Command-C will copy the current video picture into the Clipboard.
System Requirements
EyeTV 1.1 requires Mac OS X 10.2 Jaguar or later." |

| PowerBook G4 17in Display, DDR ram, GeForce4GO graphics, Bluetooth/802.11g, 800Mbit Firewire |
A new PowerBook G4 17 inch display model (1440x900 pixels), noted as actually slightly thinner than the previous 15.2in display model. Jobs said the keyboard is the most 'solid' they've shipped (the wallstreet kb was the best I've used in the past) and the keyboard has a fiber-optic keyboard backlight with ambient light sensor. 6.8 lbs.
Made from aluminum alloy/hard anodized (not painted). New port configs, chipset (DDR memory w/SDR FSB I assume), with the first mobile Nvidia graphics chip used in a Mac notebook.
- 1GHz G4, 1MB L3 (167MHz bus)
- 512MB DDR memory (PC2700/DDR333)
- 60GB hard drive
- Superdrive (slot loading) now 2x DVD-R rated (vs 1x on past models) per specs page
- Nvidia Geforce4 440 Go w/64MB video ram
- Firewire 800 and USB 1.x ports
- Bluetooth builtin
- Airport "extreme" (802.11g - 54Mbit/sec but compat. with 802.11b)
- 2 Antennas in the screen for better range - equal to the iBook apple said
- Up to 4.5 hrs battery life claimed
- Price: $3299 (shipping next month)
(bundled with Quickbooks)
They must be selling well, as I checked the apple store later in the day and the est. ship date was shown as "7-10 weeks" (?!).
They also announced a new Airport base (802.11g w/up to 50 users) with USB printer port for printer sharing. $199 list price ($249 for model with modem and ext. antenna connnector). |

| MWSF Keynote Summary on iDVD3, iMovie3, iPhoto2, Safari Browser, Keynote App |
| The keynote isn't over but here's a summary of what's been announced as far as software and non-computer products.
- Keynote: Presentation software for Jag. Imports and Exports PowerPoint files (also supports PDF/QT), XML based open file format. $99 available today - free copy to Keynote attendees.
- Safari Jaguar Browser: Apple's own OS X (10.2.x required) browser. (fastest they say per iBench tests compared to other X browsers). Built-in feature for bug reporting to Apple. (Public beta now available for download.) My initial impression is it does seem very fast.
- "iLife" - the name for the bundle of new versions iDVD3/iPhoto2/iMovie3 with integration. The iMovie3/iPhoto2 updates are to be available Sat. January 25th as free downloads, but iDVD3 is available only as part of the $49 (retail box) iLife package. (Or with a new Mac.)
iPhoto2: Adds image enhance/retouch brush, access to iTunes music and CD/DVD burning support (button to launch iDVD3).
iMovie 3: Adds chapter marker support, one-button access to other iApps, precise audio editing in clips, "ken burns effect"/panning across still photos, new user interface (windowed), more effects.
iDVD 3: Automatically makes theme/chapter menus from iMovie3 chapter markers. Integrated with other iApps, 24 new themes including theater, book, projector (aged video effect), picture-in-picture, sports, etc. Sold in a bundle w/all new iApps versions for $49 boxed/CDs. Apple 5 DVD-R packs lowered to $15. (No mention of external drive support in iDVD3, so it will still require an internal Superdrive.)
- No new products will boot into OS 9 (can run 9 in classic)
- Final Cut Express (FCP less some pro features, but includes Realtime effects) for $299 vs $999 for FCPro. Available now.
- Digidesign ProTools Audio App for OS X to ship this month ($75 upgrade, $499 list)
- Burton Snowboarding jacket w/iPod pouch and control
buttons on the jacket sleeve. $499 (ouch!) exclusive at
Apple store initially.
- 600,000 iPods shipped, 42% market share in Japan.
- Free OS X Jaguar for Teachers (US/Canada) offer has been extended
to the end of the quarter.

| OS 9/10.1/10.2 iTunes Burn Support files for Toshiba SD-R5002 DVD Recorder |
Hussein Holland sent a set of modified Toshiba support files (link revised) edited for the SD-R5002 DVD Recorder. (I've updated this FAQ's DVD section previous item on this drive to link to this 'all in one' download. The unstuffed file has folders for OS 9, OS X 10.1 and OS X 10.2 that has the modified Toshiba file for each OS.) NOTE: As with all modified files -this file replaces the existing file of the same name (use Sherlock to find the locations of the original file (long path in OS X - in OS 9 the file goes in the System Folder/Extensions/Authoring Support folder) - and to avoid permissions issues in OS X you may want to boot into OS 9 to replace the OS X file, or use the terminal as root. Although an option is to get info on the plugin file and temporarily change permissions. Some have noted booting to OS 9 to replace the file worked best however.) These files are provided as-is, with no guarantees the work flawlessly however.

| OS X 10.1.x iTunes Burn Support file for Pioneer DVR-105/A05 drive |
Lois Cusick sent a modified modified Pioneer device-plugin file edited for the Pioneer DVR-105. (I've added this info to the FAQ's DVD section for future reference. 10.2.2 and later have native support for the DVR-105. The FAQ also has a previously posted OS 9 support file for the DVR-105.) NOTE: As with all modified files -this file replaces the existing Pioneer file of the same name (use Sherlock to find the locations of the original file (long path) - and to avoid permissions issues in OS X you may want to boot into OS 9 to replace the OS X file, or use the terminal as root. Although an option is to get info on the plugin file and temporarily change permissions. Some have noted booting to OS 9 to replace the file worked best however.) These files are provided as-is, with no guarantees the work flawlessly however.

| iTunes Burn Support files for SCSI HP9210e and Ricoh MP6200s CDRW Drives |
"
Hi Mike,
On the /feedback/itunes/itunes_disk_burn.html (Discburner/Itunes drive support editing tips page-Mike) I read the part about the
ResEdit Mods to iTunes Support Files.
With those tips I made Two of them, one is for the HP9210e scsi-burner (HP9210eCDR.sit) from
Hewlett Packard and the other one is for the MP6200s scsi-burner from Ricoh. (RicohMP6200SCDR.sit)
(These files replace the existing ones in the System Folder/Extensions/Authoring Support folder. Oddly I get a lot of mails asking what to do with the modified files even though that's noted in
every FAQ/news post of them, so just a reminder. These files are for pre-OS X
operating systems only. If your older Mac doesn't have authoring support, use the old tip from the FAQ of using Tomeviewer Utility to extract files from Apple's authoring support updates.-Mike)
The HP is connected to my iMac RevB with an iProRaid/TV from Formac, also I
upgraded the iMac with the Sonnet iHarmoni/500.
The Ricoh burner which I have, is built in my Performa 6400 in the upper
bezel. On that Performa I use System 8.6NL with iTunes 1.1NL.
Now I can burn on both of my Mac's with iTunes.
Thanks for the posting on xlr8yourmac
Dick

"
I've added this info to the FAQ's CDROM/CDR section with the other files.

(If you post an updated entry - make sure you use the same name, etc. as you did before so I can find your past entry. Thanks.)
(Incomplete entries are deleted. Do not post questions in the database, it's for drive reports not questions on what drive to buy - for that try searching the database for reports from owners of your mac model on the drive type/brand/interface, etc. you're interested in.)
