ATI 9800 Pro Mac Special Edition (256MB, ADC+DVI)
Rob Art sent a note that some G5s at MWSF had a new "9800 Pro Special Edition" (retail) graphics card with 256MB RAM, 8x AGP and DVI+ADC port. (Only works in G5s he said - current BTO/OEM Mac 9800 Pros are 128MB, with the OEM card being 8x AGP/G5 only with ADC+DVI and the 4x AGP retail 9800 Pro having DVI+VGA - see this comparison page for my previous tests/comparisons of those two models.) I'll try to get more info (price, when it will be available, etc.) from my ATI contacts at the show. Nothing yet on this card at the ATI website as of tonight. I thought it might have the higher core/memory clock speeds of the PC 9800 XT version but it doesn't based on the specs in the PR doc vs the XT PC model specs.
Update: On Jan. 8th ATI posted a press release on the Mac 9800 Special Edition that notes a list price of $469. They were also demoing a 9000 chip based Mac PCI graphics card in a B&W G3 at the expo but nothing yet at their website on this model. (Assuming this will replace the aging Mac Radeon 7000 PCI card.)

Reader report on USB 2.0 PCMCIA Card w/10.3.2
" USB 2.0 PCMCIA Card News. (DH-U204PCMCIA 4 PORT CARDBUS)
    I ordered:
    http://web6.scan.co.uk/Products/Info.asp?WPID=47728
    Manufacturer site:
    http://www.doubleh.com.tw/dh-u20pcmcia.htm
UK f12 for my 1Ghz PowerBook Ti 15in SuperDrive (running 10.3.2):
It is a generic looking card - simply says "USB 2 Cardbus" with no model number. The packaging says it supports Windows with no mention of Mac. The driver CD includes 10.1 drivers as stated on above site. 10.3 doesn't require any drivers though.

Apple System Profiler reports the following new entry:

      USB High-Speed Bus:
      Vendor Name: Apple Computer, Inc.
      Speed: Up to 480 Mb/sec
      Product ID: 32774 ($8006)
      Bus Power (mA): 500

Plus the menu bar sports the following new item:

I haven't tested Sleep. My PowerBook has never been a good sleeper. It's less than 50/50 chance that it'll be a "Sleep of Death" anyway - even with no devices connected.

You can find full owner reports (latest shown first) by searching the database by drive/brand/interface/mac models (the latest reports are shown first in searches). For guides to installing CD/CDRW/DVD drives or Hard drives in many mac models, see the IDE Articles page. The Firewire articles page also has guides on case kits, installing drives, etc.
If you've added a IDE, SCSI, Firewire or USB hard drive, CDRW, tape drive, etc. make sure you add a report to the database. (If you post an updated entry - make sure you use the same name, etc. as you did before so I can find your past entry. Thanks.)
(Incomplete entries are deleted. Do not post questions in the database, it's for drive reports not questions on what drive to buy - for that try searching the database for reports from owners of your mac model on the drive type/brand/interface, etc. you're interested in.)
