| Apple Cuts Cinema Display Prices, Boosts Xserve G5 to 2.3GHz |
| Apple has cut prices by a couple hundred dollars on the their AL Cinema Displays today, with the 20in now $999.00, the 23in is $1,799.00 and the 30in is $2,999.00. A reader from the UK mentioned other price cuts at the UK store:
"
I thought I would like to know that the Apple Store was closed for updating today. When it came back online, not only did the Displays reduce in price as rumoured, but several other products took a price drop. The most notable ones that I saw were the Wireless Keyboard and Mouse. They are now £39 each instead of the previous £59 each. The price cuts seem to be quite widespread. Even the dual 2.5Gh G5 (I have one of these :-)) has had £100 knocked off.

I didn't see any G5 system price changes at the US Apple store and the Wireless Mouse and keyboard are still $59 ea there. (The falling US dollar I'm guessing is why there's more price cuts at non-US apple stores.)
Apple's hotnews page also mentions they've Upgraded the Xserve G5 models to include a dual 2.3 GHz. They also note they've begun shipping
Xsan.

| More feedback on GeeThree Multiport kit |
"
Mike, A product report.
I received a GeeThree Sweet Multiport for Christmas from my brother-in-law. What a great gift. I put it in my Digital Audio G4 (installs in those, the QS, and MDD towers with various adapters).
The installation is quite simple and the manual includes the various
diagrams per each model.
The kit comes with the mulitport for the front that includes one USB, 2
Firewire 400 ports, and a MMC reader. It also includes a PCI card that adds additional ports on the back (2 more Firewire and one more USB). And all the necessary faceplates and ample mounting screws are supplied.
What a great gift!
John G.

The March 1st, 2004 news page also had a reader report on the GeeThree Multiport kit ($49.95).

| ElGato reply to EyeTV 200 Audio noise/buzzing |
| The reader that noted his EyeTV 200 developed an audio buzzing noise after a marathon (26hr) recording session (yesterday's update to the EyeTV owner reports page) sent an update w/reply from El Gato:
"
Part 2: response from Elgato regarding the buzzing problem with my EyeTV 200
"Thank you for contacting Elgato Systems.
The problems that you're facing with EyeTV 200 are rare, but known. A few units have these symptoms, and the solution is to replace them with a new one. So, let me know your mailing address and phone number, and we'll get you a new EyeTV 200 via exchange.
Thank you for your patience while we get EyeTV working for you. "
I'll keep you posted on how things go with the exchange and new unit.
So far I'm impressed with Elgato's response (first day back from the holiday, immediate offer of replacement unit).
Thanks, Graham J.

- Apple B&W G3/350 OC report (at 450MHz)
(Full reviews of G4 and G3 upgrades compared to stock CPUs, including real world apps/game tests, install info, etc. are linked at the CPU upgrades page. OC/CPU module articles are on the Systems page.)
(Warning - Overclocking may not be reliable and could lead to hardware failure or corrupted data.) You can find the full reports by searching the database selecting the indicated Mac model and upgrade card brand/type. If you've upgraded the CPU on your Mac, please post an entry in the database. Search the database for entries from most every upgradable Mac model *before* you buy. (Searchable by mac model/upgrade brand). | CDRW/CD/DVD/Hard Drive/Cardreader Compatibility Database Update Listing |
| The Drive Compatibility Database had 4 new reports added this morning. (Entries from Monday, entries today are added the next newsday morning.) The database includes reports on Combo DVD-CDRW, CDROMs, DVD-ROM, DVD-RAM, DVD-R, DVD+R, CDRW, Hard Drives and Removables (tape drive, ORB, ZIP, MO drives, CF/Smartmedia readers, etc.) in all interface types (IDE, IDE RAID cards, Firewire, SCSI, USB, adapters). Current total - 14,061 reports. (searching by drive type/brand, mac model etc. listed below will show the full reports, most recent first - does not include updates to previous reports)
You can find full owner reports (latest shown first) by searching the database by drive/brand/interface/mac models (the latest reports are shown first in searches).
For guides to installing CD/CDRW/DVD drives or Hard drives in many mac models, see the IDE Articles page. The Firewire articles page also has guides on case kits, installing drives, etc. If you've added a IDE, SCSI, Firewire or USB hard drive, CDRW, tape drive, etc. make sure you add a report to the database. (If you post an updated entry - make sure you use the same name, etc. as you did before so I can find your past entry. Thanks.)
(Incomplete entries are deleted. Do not post questions in the database, it's for drive reports not questions on what drive to buy - for that try searching the database for reports from owners of your mac model on the drive type/brand/interface, etc. you're interested in.)
