Apple Intros $899 17-inch iMac Education Model
Apple has a press release today on a $899 EDU version of the 17in iMac (the eMac has been discountinued). Down the page they list the specs on the $899 EDU iMac which has some differences from the standard iMac retail models (which have an ATI X1600 graphics chip with dedicated vram vs the onboard Intel GMA950 graphics with shared memory for instance) but they cost more ($1299 and up non-EDU price)

" The 17-inch 1.83 GHz iMac, for a suggested education price of $899 (US), includes:
  • 17-inch widescreen LCD display;
  • 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo processor;
  • 512MB of 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM expandable to 2GB;
  • 24x Combo drive (std retail models have superdrives)

  • built-in iSight video camera;
  • built-in AirPort Extreme wireless networking;

    Review of Elgato EyeTV with hybrid tuner
    "Hi Mike, I've put online a review of thelatest version of EyeTV software tested with Terratec Hybrid TS, the first USB 2.0 device that allows you to receive Analog and Digital Terrestrial channels without switching tuners on the Mac. This is a fantastic product for europeans and for people living and traveling in other countries who are going through the (slow) transition from analog broadcasting to digital terrestrial broadcasting.
    The review has screenshots of every window of EyeTV and tries to explain how it works with iPod, S-video signal, other TV tuners from Miglia and Elgato.

    ViaVoice Tip for 10.4.x users
    (in reply to an older problem post - I don't own ViaVoice to test this but posting as a FYI to anyone that does)

    " ViaVoice tip
    I have a work around for ViaVoice on 10.4 and above, simply go to your preferences and turn on Speakable Items! and set your microphone to your headset (Plantronics USB, in my case.) this seemed to solve the problem for me, ViaVoice now works like a charm with no problems or hang ups...
    if you turn off Speakable Items it stops working and hangs up again...
    Hope this Tip helps someone else. Good luck!

    Another reader replied to this post suggesting ViaVoice owners instead try enabling Access for Assistive Devices in the Universal Access preference panel.
