Apple posts Audio Update 2007-001 and OS X 10.4.10 v1.1 for Intel-based Macs
Apple has released an Audio Update 2007-001 for Intel-based Macs that had audio issues (popping, etc.) with external speakers after the original 10.4.10 update. (They've also released a v1.1 of the 10.4.10 update for Intel-based Macs that includes this fix - see below)

"This update is recommended for all users running 10.4.10 on Intel-based Macs and resolves an issue with audio.
(more details are in the About Audio Update 2007-001)
The Audio Update 2007-001 addresses an issue with version 1.0 of the Mac OS X 10.4.10 Update in which a "popping" sound might be heard with some external speakers on Intel-based Mac. This update is recommended for all Intel-based Macs running Mac OS X 10.4.10.

Installing Audio Update 2007-001
This update is available via Software Update, and as a standalone update from Apple Support Downloads.

This update can be installed only if the Mac OS X 10.4.10 Update client (or Universal Server) update is already installed.

Note: Version 1.1 of the Mac OS X 10.4.10 Update is not affected by this issue and does not require the Audio Update 2007-001 update."

They've posted download pages for Mac OS X 10.4.10 Update v1.1 (Intel) and a Mac OS X 10.4.10 Combo Update v1.1 (Intel).

FYI: Dust Buildup on X1900 XT heatsink can cause overheating
"Vader" sent some photos of dust clogging the heatsink fins of the X1900 XT in his Mac Pro after several months of use. He investigated after seeing some display artifacts (overheating apparently) in some 3d games. Cleaning/removing the dust buildup from the heatsink fins solved the problem.
(There's been similar reports of even heavier dust buildup on CPU upgrade heatsink fins and even stock G5 towers in the past here - so it's something worth checking every now and then, especially if you have a system on the floor or in a dusty environment.)

More MacBook Pro Software Update Feedback (graphics/GL driver update)
(latest feedback on Last Thursday's MacBook Pro (2.2/2.4GHz) Software Update 1.0, which had updated graphics drivers/GL frameworks)

" Hi Mike I received my 2.4GHz 15" MacBook Pro on Tuesday and haven't really had time to do a lot of testing (yet), but i managed to do a standard cfg timedemo of Quake3 before and after the Update 1.0 from Apple. Also I have had time to play around with Quake4 a bit and here are my observations:

Quake 3 timedemo four with a freshly generated cfg (all default, no smp enabled) went up from 309 fps before the update to 381 fps after the update! That's a rather significant performance boost.

Quake 4 meanwhile performed well before the update, even at 1440x900 resolution with everything enabled except AA. However there used to be slight hickups or lags between different scenes, especially notable in the singleplayer intro, where the machine would sometimes hickup for a second or so between scene changes. I first thought it might be due to the harddrive loading new data and that I'd just have to live with it. (on new systems/installs Spotlight may still be indexing the drive, which also takes a hit on performance.-Mike)
After the Update 1.0, these hickups are entirely gone. Without having timedemo data, subjectively the game performs noticeably faster now too.

Could be interesting to test if Unreal Tournament 2004 now performs faster as well, since some people found it performed worse on the new MBP than on the old one.
    All the best, Bensch "
