Mac Unreal Tournament 2004 v3229 Update
Although none of the usual sources (MU, VT, Macgamefiles) have it listed yet as I'm typing this, there's a v3229 update for (retail) Mac Unreal Tournament 2004 at 3Dgamers.com's UT2004 files page dated June 11th, patcher dated June 8th. (The PC version has a version v3236 update there also.)
3Dgamers links to a readme file with a long list of changes/fixes. There's several mirrors of the mac updater at 3Dgamer's download page for the update. (Macsoft's UT2004 updates page still lists the previous v3204 update from last month.)
If v3229 fixes/improves or breaks anything in your setup, let me know.

Speaking of UT2004, there's a recent update (v1.9) to the CarBall mod for UT2004. Their download page includes a .sit version.

Another Shareware Utility for Nvidia card owners that lost monitor modes w/10.3.4
The 10.3.4 feedback page had several reports from Nvidia card owners that lost some monitor modes (higher refresh rates, etc.) after the 10.3.4 update. A previous report/tip there noted DisplayConfigX ($12 to register) helped. A GF2MX owner sent a note on using another shareware utility - SwitchResX.

"With the stock Geforce2 MX and an Envision EN-910 19" monitor on a G4 867 Quicksilver, after the 10.3.4 upgrade I not only lost the higher refresh rates on high resolutions, but also the resolution I had been using, 1152X870, as one report already noted with the Geforce 4.
(I replied back that Displayconfigx had helped other Nvidia card owners with lost modes/refresh rates after the 10.3.4 update and he wrote:)
... Since I sent my prior report, I discovered an alternate shareware program, SwitchRes, which restores the ability to use the resolutions that were available in 10.2 Jaguar (but only a few of the higher refresh rates). It does however, allow you to create custom settings and even assign them to specific applications. It has a handy icon in the menu bar to change resolutions quickly, and there is a ten day free trial before sending the $15 shareware fee. It's available at http://www.madrau.com/. (switchres was originally a utility for OS 9 noted in the FAQ here some years ago, but now has an OS X version called "SwitchResX".)
I also applied an Nvidia ROM update, which had no effect. (the last Nvidia card firmware update was to add support for the Cinema HD 23in LCD, noted in the FAQ here when it was released in Nov. 2002. The flasher was updated since then for 10.3.x compatibility.) The problem with jerky video in Classic applications remains, and I have discovered that SPSS (Statistics program) is now so slow as to be completely unusable after the update, but I assume that the SPSS problem is unrelated to the video problem.
Thanks, David "

It may not matter (I don't use classic anymore), but I asked David what version of the Nvidia OS 9 extensions he had (he later wrote nvidia extensions 3.0 v1.1). Version 3.5.2 I think was the latest version apple shipped on some MDD systems that could boot to OS 9.x, but 3.5.2 was never (to date) publicly released, although the FAQ's video cards section has a download link. (v3.5.2 also fixed the hangs booting to OS 9.x with some OEM Nvidia cards in older G4 Towers.)
I've added David's report to the 10.3.4 feedback page and updated the FAQ Displays/Monitors section item with a link to SwitchResX as another alternative to DisplayConfigX.

Tip for Linksys BEFSR41 v2 Router problems with latest firmware
(from a reader mail yesterday - in regards to a past report on problems in 10.3.4 w/security update with this specific Linksys model/Version with the current firmware for it. Note that there's a version 3 of this model that has different firmware and apparently never had this problem)

" Just a quick update on the Linksys BEFSR41 v2 issues with the router loosing or forgetting the WAN connection. I emailed Linksys and setting the MTU to 1492 seems to have the issue solved so far. (it's been an hour and I haven't had to reset it once.) I will keep you posted if the issue starts up again.
Phil..
(Linksys email follows)
Thank you for contacting Linksys Customer Support.
Since you already tried upgrading the firmware, you may try to set the MTU of the router to 1492 and disable the block WAN request. You can do this changes thru the setup page of the router, under the Advance tab's Filters page. Then observe the connection.
If it will be the same, use a lower firmware version for the router. You can download it in this site, ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pub/network. "

CDRW/CD/DVD/Hard Drive/Cardreader Compatibility Database Update Listing
The Drive Compatibility Database had 2 new reports added this morning. (Reader entries from Tuesday, entries today are added the next newsday morning. Entries with no comments are not posted). The database includes reports on Combo DVD-CDRW, CDROMs, DVD-ROM, DVD-RAM, DVD-R, DVD+R, CDRW, Hard Drives and Removables (tape drive, ORB, ZIP, MO drives, CF/Smartmedia readers, etc.) in all interface types (IDE, IDE RAID cards, Firewire, SCSI, USB, adapters). Current total 13,186 reports. (searching by drive type/brand, mac model etc. listed below will show the full reports, most recent first - does not include updates to previous reports)

    DVD+R/RW + DVD-R/RW Drives:
  • Firewire cased LG GSA-4081b (didn't note speed rating) used w/eMac (OS X 10.3)
  • IDE Pioneer DVR-107D in Dual G4 DDR (OS X 10.3)
(Illustrated CD drive install guide here covers G4 towers up to the Digital Audio Model, Beige G3 MT and B&W G3 Macs)

You can find full owner reports (latest shown first) by searching the database by drive/brand/interface/mac models (the latest reports are shown first in searches). For guides to installing CD/CDRW/DVD drives or Hard drives in many mac models, see the IDE Articles page. The Firewire articles page also has guides on case kits, installing drives, etc.
If you've added a IDE, SCSI, Firewire or USB hard drive, CDRW, tape drive, etc. make sure you add a report to the database. (If you post an updated entry - make sure you use the same name, etc. as you did before so I can find your past entry. Thanks.)
(Incomplete entries are deleted. Do not post questions in the database, it's for drive reports not questions on what drive to buy - for that try searching the database for reports from owners of your mac model on the drive type/brand/interface, etc. you're interested in.)
