| Miglia TV Beta Update to address Safari 3.0 Beta problem |
| Several readers had reported problems here with their Miglia TV products (Evolution TV, Alchemy TV/DVR) after installing the Safari 3.0 Beta. A reader sent a note today that Miglia has a beta update to address that:
"
I have an EvolutionTV and had installed the new MigliaTV software
when it was first released. It worked fine. Then I installed the
Safari 3.0 beta and had the same problems as your other readers (i.e. app launches than crashes, but audio remains with grey TV window and spinning beachball).
I emailed Miglia tech support (support@miglia.com), and just today I received an email with a link for a beta update to the MigliaTV software. The readme and installer info were the same as the release available on the website, but the 'About...' box reveals this to be "MigliaTV 1.1.1 (2673)". It works fine with Safari 3.0 beta installed.
Running on a 20" iMac Core Duo 2Ghz.
Regards, Christopher

| VLC media player 0.8.6c (w/security related fixes) |
The videolan.org home page has
notes on a new update with some security related fixes:
"
VLC media player 0.8.6c, VideoLAN Security Advisory 0702
2007-06-17
VLC media player versions 0.8.6b and lower suffer from a security
vulnerability in the CDDA, Vorbis, Theora and SAP plugins. More technical
details are available in our advisory.
An updated release of VLC is available which includes a few other fixes as
well. The full list of changes can be found here.
We strongly recommend all users to update to this new version."

| Halo 2.0.2 Update |
| Eddie sent a note there's a Halo 2.0.2 update (Universal Binary Version):
"
This update improves performance for PowerPC based systems and some Intel
systems, fixes graphical errors, custom multiplayer game type issues and
also allows the program to run properly from a case-sensitive drive. Version
2.0.2 also fixes an issue with the "A" key and incorporates a VSYNC fix.

| Turbo.264 Tests Page Updated with iMac 1.83GHz results |
| I've updated the page of Encoding Speed Tests with Elgato Turbo.264 Hardware Encoder with these results from an iMac Core Duo owner:
"Just ran a test on the Turbo h.264 accelerator.
iMac Core Duo 1.83GHz (ATi X1600/128MB), 1GB ram, 10.4.9
EyeTV 1.4GB 720x576 mpeg-2 file
- iMac with Turbo h.264: 7min 36sec
- iMac without Turbo h.264: 34min
Since i mainly use the Turbo h.264 to convert tv shows from the Eyetv
format to my ipod this accelerator has saved me alot of time. A great
bargin for $99.
-Dan"
Although the results with a G5 Quad were slower with the Turbo.264, for some other systems the gains were impressive (especially the iBook G4 results...)
