| Confirmation on GeForce2MX/Lightwave 3D 6.5 Issues: |
| I noted missing features of scenes in Lightwave 6.5 when using the GeForce2MX card (1.1.1 drivers) in a recent article here comparing the ATI Radeon. (The Radeon didn't have this problem as shown in the screenshot comparisons.) A reader sent a note that others have seen this as well.
"
Hi Mike,
I received this message from Pat Turner which shows similar problems with
Layout OGL display using the nVidia card...
Take care.

(coments from Pat Turner follow)
Hi Julian,
I just ran the Hummer test on my 533 with the nVidia card. Some
interesting
results not related to how long the test ran.
With 400Megs allocated memory D1 (NTSC) (720x486) the preview took 3 mins 11 secs with the nVidiaOpenGL extension on. This resulted in similar missed tire tracks that Mike reported. [note - the vehicle also seemed to sink down in some frames as shown in the article-Mike]
When I turned the nVidiaOpen GL extension off I wound up with a render time of 5 mins 18 secs but all the textures appeared normally.
I guess that says something. That the nVidiaOpenGL extension is
responsible for more than just modeler crashes! :)
Pat Turner"
Hopefully this will be addressed in a future driver update. For images showing the issue in detail, see my GeForce2MX vs Radeon article.

| Note about Sony CRX-140 Retail Drives - Check Drive in the Box Before Buying: |
| I thought this was an isolated incident but now I'm not so sure. Last week a reader reported buying two CRX-140 CDRW drives at a retail store only to find the drive inside was a different model not supported by iTunes/Disc Burner. (I can't remember the exact model number in the box.) Another reader posted a warning in the drive database yesterday:
"I included an important tip in my own compatibility database posting... Sony is packaging the WRONG drive in some CRX140E boxes!
Fry's had a ton of them packaged incorrectly. If someone doesn't
notice the incorrect model number on the drive itself (as I didn't
with the first one I installed), they will soon be frustrated as to
why it doesn't work... Mark Booth

| More Comments on iTunes/Toast Errors with 320K MP3 Files: |
| A reader replied to the post in yesterday's news on 320KB MP3 file burn errors to note that was not the problem with his Sony CRX-140 CDRW.
"
Mike:
I also have a Beige G3 desktop and a sony CRX-140 CDRW. I have also been
getting -7932 errors when burning with itunes.
With itunes 1.0, this would usually happen in the 3rd track or so. With
1.1 it has been happening in the last track of the cd-r.
The problem a reader referenced with bitrates in not the case...these are
all low bit rates (128 or so), and the MP3 files also work fine when
burning with toast.
the only thing I can think of is the toast extensions (I have 4.1.2. OEM
installed) are somehow interfering with itunes. I also was running itunes
under 9.0.4; have since upgraded to 9.1 and will let you know if it makes
a difference.
(name withheld by request)"
I reminded him of the past comments and notes at Apple's compatibility page that you should create a separate extension set for Toast use.
