| More Info G4/667 and 733Mhz L3 Cache Speeds: |
| In yesterday's news I noted that the latest TIL on the G4 Digital Audio systems noted a lower L3 cache speed than originally listed in the data sheet PDF file. According to this reply from a friend at Apple the data sheet was in error and all 667/733 G4 towers should have shipped with a 1/4 CPU speed L3 cache.
"Yes, we did change the speed of the L3 cache, but as far as we can tell from
our testing, it makes no difference to performance. As far as we know, all
667 and 733 units shipped with 4:1 L3, even if the datasheet described 3:1." |

| More Comments on Skyline Wireless PCI card Compatibility: |
| In yesterday's news there were comments on the Skyline card noting PCI 2.2 slots as a requirement, issues with Beige G3/300 and /333 systems and a report from a 7600 owner that was using one fine. One Beige G3/266 owner reported he had a problem with the card but apparently that is the exception rather than the rule.

I just got off the phone with Farallon and they told me that there are no compatibility issues with Beige G3 233 and 266 models. She also told me that it was compatible with all prior PCI Power Macs. I asked about the PCI 2.2 standard and she told me it was not an issue, just thought I should pass on this information.

I don't know why they list PCI 2.2 in the requirements if it's not an issue. (Apparently not based on the 7600 owner comments, although an S900 owner has not been able to get the card to work in that Mac.) The 7600 owner wrote a Lucent PCI adapter did not work in the 7600 or his 8600, although the Skyline card did. He noted the 7600 w/Skyline card is running OS 9.1 and his Airport Base Station is using v1.2 software.
Another reader sent a copy of an email from Ask Farallon stating it would work in his 8500. For more info on the card see the Farallon Skyline PCI card product page and Compatibility page has more details on the Beige G3/300-333 system issue.

The Drive Compatibility searchable database had 7 new entries added this morning including CDRWs, CD-ROM, Tape drives, removable media and Hard Drives. (Current total 3,238 reports).
