Verax CPU Cooling Fans/Heatsink for MDD G4
Update - another reader wrote in reply to this post saying that the verax kit does include replacement Power Supply fans - however P.S. fans are not noted on the English page (as of today) which only mentioned the dual CPU fans/heatsink (which eliminates the need for the stock 120MM case fan). The photos and text didn't note any PS fans on the english page - here's a clip from the english page (as of today - maybe they will update it soon to note the 2 P.S. fans)

"This is how the New Low Noise Power Mac G4 looks. The main changes are:
    • Active cooling of the twin processors with two Verax fans
    • Channeling of air that is used to cool the processors to the outside of the housing
    • Replacement of the 120 mm fan with an 80 mm Verax fan "

I can't read German so I used the info from the English page linked on the German page. The German page has another item listed which a reader translated saying it notes 2 Verax fans for the PSU.

    (Original news item follows)
Although the (english page) doesn't address the Power Supply fans (which have been a common factor in noise complaints - see the article here on MDD PS Fan replacement), Alexis Hochschild sent a link to a german page on alternative (quieter they say) MDD G4 CPU heatsink/Cooling fans at (An English version of the page was linked off a US flag icon there.) (The german page notes 2 PS fan replacements are included as well as the heatsink/fans.) I think this company has been mentioned before at (One of their readers later said they worked with verax to on their noise reduction products.)

Update on Apple MDD Power Supply/Fan Exchange Program Shipping
(from an Apple email, regarding the MDD P.S./Fan Exchange program for noise reduction on original systems noted in the Feb. 21st news page)

    "Dear valued Apple customer,
Thank you for participating in the Power Mac G4 Power Supply Exchange Program. Due to an unexpected supply delay, limited quantities of the kits will begin shipping at the end of March 2003. There has not been a change to the original lead time Apple quoted you when you placed your order. (originally noted as some shipments starting appx. March 10th)

Product availability can change rapidly, and order status updates will be sent as soon as new information becomes available. Please do not call requesting order status.
    We appreciate your understanding.

English page on iBook backlit keyboard modification
A week or so ago I linked to a japanese page on iBook mods for a backlit keyboard. The author of the mod sent a note that he's posted an english page on the modifications.

" Hi., I am the man of White Light iBook :).
I have heard about you from Mitsunobu Tanaka who let you know about my modification. I am very happy because you wrote about me in xlr8yourmac so that my homepage got many guests who were interested.
Now, since one of my guest requested an English explanation of this challenge, I wrote a description roughly today. This is the link.
This is realy my first experience to write html language. Because it was difficult, I could not include slide show in my photo page with English, though it successfully works with photo page in Japanese. (He later wrote he had an English slide show page) Sorry for my poor English but I hope many people see my writing about this modification and expand their imaginations about using their Macintosh. I also hope your fascinating site lasts very long.
    Best Regards,
    Nobuyuki Nishi
    iBook 500, MacOS X "

If you've added a IDE, SCSI, Firewire or USB hard drive, CDRW, tape drive, etc. make sure you add a report to the database. (If you post an updated entry - make sure you use the same name, etc. as you did before so I can find your past entry. Thanks.)
(Incomplete entries are deleted. Do not post questions in the database, it's for drive reports not questions on what drive to buy - for that try searching the database for reports from owners of your mac model on the drive type/brand/interface, etc. you're interested in.)
