Another Powerlogix owner reports OF/NVRAM reset solves wake from sleep problem
Earlier today I posted a note from a Powerlogix AGP CPU upgrade owner that clearing the NVRAM via the Open Firmware (OF) terminal solved his wake-from-sleep issue. Although I suspect it won't help most that have this problem, another Powerlogix owner replied that resetting it twice (once using using the Apple kbase doc's reset-nvram command, then reader's set-defaults example) helped. (It didn't help with the one upgrade I have with that problem however; tried it several times earlier today using both reset-nvram and set-defaults - I even tried removing the battery for several hours.) But at least two PL owners have found this helped.
"I just wanted to let you know - my wake-from-sleep issues also were fixed by this solution - here's what I did:
Boot to OF (Command+Option+O+F at boot-Mike)
reset-nvram
reset-all
Wake from sleep not fixed.
Boot to OF:
set-defaults
reset-all
Wake from sleep fixed. So either it was just the last one
(set-defaults) or both that did the trick. I have a G4 (AGP Graphics)
with a PowerLogix 1GHz upgrade card/Radeon 8500/WD 40GB Hard drive
Thanks,
Scott"
If anyone else's upgrade has their wake-from-sleep issue solved with an OF/NVRAM reset, let me know.

Carbon Copy Cloner 2.1.6 beta
Spotted the update at Macupdate today. No notes there on what was changed in this version ( I've not used it yet, but the download's readme file only noted v2.1.5 info) and and I didn't see more than a download link yet at Mike Bombich's CCC home page. (Note that CCC v2.x is not for use with OS X 10.1.x - use v1.3.1 for OS X 10.1.2 - 10.1.5 - see the CCC homepage for more info.
The latest non-beta OS X Jaguar version at the CCC homepage today is 2.1.2.)

Powerlogix G4 AGP Upgrade owner reports resetting OF solved Wake-From-Sleep Issue
(See the later news update for a 2nd PL owner noting this helped, after running it twice)
I don't know if this will help anyone else seeing the problem (it didn't for me with the one upgrade in my DA system that had the problem), but one of the Rate your CPU Upgrade reports from the weekend from a Powerlogix G4 AGP upgrade owner noted that resetting the Open Firmware solved the wake-from-sleep issue he had after swapping in the new module.
"Install was very easy. Wake from sleep issues after upgrade went away with an OF Resets.
In OF typed:
"
set-defaults
reset-all"
...-Stacy Price"
Hold down the Command + Option + O + F keys at boot to get to the OF screen/terminal. Here's an Apple kbase doc that has info on resetting open firmware down near the bottom of the page - they note "reset-nvram" instead of "set-defaults". (NVRAM resets clear settings like startup disk, etc.)
Although my Dual G4/533 Digital Audio system didn't have the wake-from-sleep problems with a PL Dual 1GHz (series 133), Giga Designs G4/800 and Giga Designs 1GHz it did with the Giga 1.25GHz-1.33GHz (all reviewed here). I tried (twice) resetting the OF, it did not help with the OS X wake-from-sleep issue with the 1.33GHz upgrade. I tried installing the 10.2.4 combo update (and repairing permissions check as I always do after every OS X or X apps update) - and although it didn't kernel panic (the Jag dialog that you have to restart your computer) like it did in 10.2.3 - it just hung with no mouse/keyboard response after waking from sleep. (The other possible is to try a clean install of 10.2.x ...)
If anyone else's upgrade has their wake-from-sleep issue solved with an OF reset let me know.
I tried that in the past for Firewire port problems (didn't help on my PB G4/400 and Cube FW port failures - removing the battery from the Cube for hours did once, but not after the 2nd time the FW ports when south). When the firewire ports are damaged, nothing like that can help. (Damage from bus powered drives usually - FAQ's Firewire section here has links to past articles on why this happens.)

Latest report on iBook Combo Drive low CDR write speeds (strange tip noted)
| I would be surprised if this helped others (since I don't see why it would really change anything) but posting it as a FYI:
"
Hi there thought I would pass on this information. I have had an iBook 800
for a couple of months now and have never experienced any of the slow
burning speed issues... Until now that is. For some reason I got stuck at
4x's burning no matter what media was used!
However I've found a solution!!!!!
On a whim I used the Apple Hardware Test CD that came with my iBook and ran
all the tests.... Then when I rebooted- voila!!! I got my 16X's burning
back!!!! I don't know what this test did but it corrected it!
Please pass this info on to other iBook owners and urge them to try it!
Looking forward to hearing if this works for other people!
Thanks,
Adam S"

You can find full owner reports (latest shown first) by searching the database by drive/brand/interface/mac models (the latest reports are shown first in searches).
For guides to installing CD/CDRW/DVD drives or Hard drives in many mac models, see the IDE Articles page. The Firewire articles page also has guides on case kits, installing drives, etc. If you've added a IDE, SCSI, Firewire or USB hard drive, CDRW, tape drive, etc. make sure you add a report to the database. (If you post an updated entry - make sure you use the same name, etc. as you did before so I can find your past entry. Thanks.)
(Incomplete entries are deleted. Do not post questions in the database, it's for drive reports not questions on what drive to buy - for that try searching the database for reports from owners of your mac model on the drive type/brand/interface, etc. you're interested in.)
