Powerlogix G3/800 ZIF Review
I've posted my review of the Powerlogix G3/800 ZIF tested in my B&W G3. The review includes apps/games/benchmark tests and a page with info/screenshots on Powerlogix's Software Control for adjusting speeds "on the fly" (a feature of the G3 750FX chip). I'm disappointed that I did not have a G4/550 ZIF to include in the test comparisons, but there's nothing I can do about that currently. I did include tests vs. a G3/500, and various G4 upgrades up to 500MHz.
(News was light today as I was working on the review writeup most of the day.)

Reader Comments on AD Blocking via Hosts file mod
"Not really news ... but not sure where you might want to put this tip:
There are links on the web already for how to stop 99% of ads -- it involves modification of the hosts file. One link is
But after installing the latest AIM version (Mac OS/9, I know I am still a throwback to the stone age ...) I found that some ads were coming through on the top of the buddy list. I wouldn't mind, except that there was a really annoying one that flashed. So I turned on logging in my router and found that they were coming from Adding this to the hosts file took care of it...

I do not like using proxy services because it slows down the browser -- so the hosts file solution works best for me. But -- if you notice something doesn't load -- it could be due to it being in the hosts file! I was trying to use a tracking script from extreme-dm and finally figured out that it was blocked in the hosts file! So beware. And surf mostly ad-free!

    SCSI Hard Drives:
  • Quantum Atlas IV 18GB in Dual G4 DDR (OS 9.2)

You can find full owner reports (latest shown first) by searching the database by drive/brand/interface/mac models (the latest reports are shown first in searches). For guides to installing CD/CDRW/DVD drives or Hard drives in many mac models, see the IDE Articles page. The Firewire articles page also has guides on case kits, installing drives, etc.
If you've added a IDE, SCSI, Firewire or USB hard drive, CDRW, tape drive, etc. make sure you add a report to the database. (If you post an updated entry - make sure you use the same name, etc. as you did before so I can find your past entry. Thanks.)
(Incomplete entries are deleted. Do not post questions in the database, it's for drive reports not questions on what drive to buy - for that try searching the database for reports from owners of your mac model on the drive type/brand/interface, etc. you're interested in.)
