| Sony Playstation Portable Arrives in US Stores |
Today the
Sony Playstation Portable hit USA retail stores. I dropped by a local BestBuy that had the PSP Value pack for $249.99 (includes
Spiderman2 movie, 32MB Memory Stick Duo (512MB Sandisk Pro Duo was $79.99), a Sampler disc, AC adaptor, Battery pack, headphones/earbuds, Soft Case and wrist strap). They had an external "Power Brick" (Battery Pack that charges the internal battery 2x on one charge) for $19.99 and many "PSP kits" that included car adapters, screen protectors, USB cable, replacement earbuds, cases (some hard cases), etc. varying in price from $49.99 (w/ext. battery pack) to $29.99 or less with discounts of $5 on most accessories ($10 discount on the $50 "Kit").
The salesmen I talked to was pushing their 2 year warranty at $39.99 (he told me they'd replace the PSP for even one bad pixel, unlike the Sony warranty he said). They had about 10 PSP Games in stock, but no Gran Turismo which several customers lamented. (The racing games in stock were "Ridge Racer" and "Need for Speed Underground: Rivals".) They were offering $5 off on most games with larger discounts/gift cards if you bought more than one game.
This was the first time I had actually seen one personally and
I liked the screen size and overall quality. If it had more storage, it would be an attractive alternative to an iPod Photo (using
PSPware to Sync Photos, Movies, etc. using an OS X Mac).

| Praise for Dell's under $1200 24in LCD Monitor |
"
I bought a Dell 2405FPW Wide Screen 24 inch LCD Display (1920x1200), and I am very happy with it. I can't compare it to an apple screen, since i don't own one.
The advantages over the Cinema Display are it's numerous interfaces: vga, dvi, composite, s-video, component. There is also a built-in USB-hub, and even a 9 in 1 flash card reader. (vga-, dvi, and usb cable are included)
With it's 24 inches, the screen is slightly bigger than apples cinema
display, therefore the unit pixels must be a little bigger.
There are no dead pixels on the screen, and the screen is very bright.
In conclusion, the 2405FPW is a nice alternative to the 23 inch Cinema Display. The price is listed as 1139 US-$ on the Dell website, though I read somewhere that there are some coupons around to get it much cheaper. (Mine was 1350 swiss francs (about 1000$))

Extremetech has a
Review of the Dell UltraSharp 2405FPW Widescreen LCD that includes several display tests and rated it highly. A less technical review of it is also at Jaded gamer.com.

For guides to installing CD/CDRW/DVD drives or Hard drives in many mac models, see the IDE Articles page. The Firewire articles page also has guides on case kits, installing drives, etc. If you've added a IDE, SCSI, Firewire or USB hard drive, CDRW, tape drive, etc. make sure you add a report to the database. (If you post an updated entry - make sure you use the same name, etc. as you did before so I can find your past entry. Thanks.)
(Incomplete entries are deleted. Do not post questions in the database, it's for drive reports not questions on what drive to buy - for that try searching the database for reports from owners of your mac model on the drive type/brand/interface, etc. you're interested in.)
