| Intuit patch for TurboTax 2006 to Fix Issue with QT 7.1.5 (10.3.9) |
| (Email from Intuit tonight at appx 8PM regarding the problem with Turbotax failure to run after Quicktime 7.1.5 update in 10.3.9 mentioned last week here. About 2 dozen readers using OS X 10.4.8/QT 7.1.5 said they did not see the problem.)
"
Dear Customer,
You signed up to be notified when the issue regarding QuickTime 7.1.5 and TurboTax was resolved.
We are pleased to inform you that we've just released a patch to resolve this issue. Please download the manual update by clicking here. (http://ftpfp.quicken.com/pub/turbotax/2006/TT06_update.app.dmg)
After you have downloaded the manual patch, double click it in order to install. Installing this patch will not affect your current tax file.
We apologize for any inconvenience.
Thank you, TurboTax Support
"
BTW: Ed (who had verified this problem last week w/10.3.9/QT 7.1.5) said there's an update to TurboTax (he has Home and Business edition) available via the update check also (5 part update he said - get info afterwards showed v06-53). After applying that update TurboTax no longer quits on his 10.3.9/QT 7.1.5 system. (He had not applied the above patch so the update check/download must have installed the same patch as above.) Regardless, you should check for TT updates often for other changes/corrections/form updates, etc. (Ed said he's seen updates even after the filing deadline...)

| Airport Extreme 2007-002 reports page updated |
I've updated the page of Feedback on Airport Extreme 2007-002 update (updated again at 3:30PM) with 2 reports from Core Duo Macbook/MB Pro's using a Dell 1500 card (broadcom chip based) - one said the card already had the same firmware version as included in the AE 2007-002 update and the other saying it had an earlier version and did show a later version after the update. There's also a report there from a Core2 Duo Macbook Pro user's with notes on poor performance with his Netgear Rangemax Next base/router. (Page updated with more info on his setup.)

| L3 Cache Enabler (for 10.3.9) |
| (Posting as a FYI - as some readers that put an OEM Apple CPU module w/L3 cache from a later G4 tower in an older tower said the L3 cache wasn't enabled. Normally this isn't an issue with 3rd party CPU upgrades, although some of them have software utilities from the vendor also.)
"
I wrote a kernel module which enables L3 cache on G4 models on which it was originally not supported.
http://www.substring.ch/l3enabler.
I needed it for the Quicksilver 800DP in my G4 Digital Audio...
Regards
-Till W.
"
His page notes he tested in 10.3.9 but that it wasn't OS X Tiger/10.4.x compatible. (For those that have swapped OEM CPUs and don't have the L3 enabled by default, let me know if you've used some other utility (PL, Sonnet, etc.) or manually used an OF command/setting that enabled it.
(Although not specific to the L3 cache issue above, JJ sent a reminder on Sonnet's SonnetCache patch that corrects the problem were Apple System profiler fails to properly report CPU speed on some 745x CPUs (as mentioned several years ago here when this first came up - the problem is due to the fact later 745x CPUs reused some lower ratio (bus multiplier) PLL settings for higher ratio settings (IIRC 9.5x, 10.5x, 11.5x, etc..) Sonnet's software corrected that misreporting (which for affected users could prevent some apps like FCP from running due to the low CPU speed reported.)
