PCI/PCI-X eSATA Card feedback from G5 Tower owners

G5 Tower PCI card stripped retainer screw hole repair w/Thumb screws
" I did a simple modification to my G5 this past weekend and posted some pictures of it on my picasa here: http://picasaweb.google.com/sirhannick/PCIAGPSlotMod
My PCI slot retaining screw holes had had their threads stripped because of slanted screws going in. The G5 does not permit a straight shot with a screw driver due to case construction. I had also thought that the head area of screws was not large enough to softly, but adequately retain cards. First off I cleaned up the threads of the holes while also making them through holes so longer length screws would fit. Previously only a short length screw would fit before hitting a dead end and destroying its threads. I also drilled through the plastic insert so threads could make it through there. Then once that was all done, I finally got to install my thumb screws.

I now have easily removable PCI/AGP cards. If you would be interested in my writing a more detail write up on this I could. I'm sure a lot of G5, and mac owners in general have issues with stripped threads and poor retention of expansion cards.
-Michael"

G5 Tower Random Shutdowns/Tips page updated
An update today to the previous page on Feedback on G5 Tower Random Shutdowns has a report from another reader using the "Reduced" performance Energy Saver option and that after deciding to change back to "Highest Performance" setting (to finish a PShop task) he saw the CPU temps using (freeware) Temperature Monitor take a big drop and hopefully fixing the problem. (BTW - That same thing helped in the past with high fan speeds in G5 towers after some OS updates. Oddly sometimes just toggling the ES Performance setting and going back to Highest Performance helped.)
