Sale on Notebook 200GB/7200rpm drives (internal and external), Laptop Stands w/USB Hub
(from site sponsor OWC)
"200GB (7200rpm) Notebook Drives from $139, external specials
From now and until March 31st, a $30 Hitachi Rebate is available on purchases of the 200GB Hitachi 7K200 7200RPM 16MB Cache SATA Notebook HD which is currently posted at an already low $169.50 XLR8 Reader special price. That's a net of $139.50 before freight (which starts from $2.95) and the rebate can be claimed for up to 5 of these drives per household/location/customer.

Also available is a rebate for $30 per OWC Portable 200GB 7200RPM USB 2.0, USB 2.0+eSATA, and/or FireWire 800+USB2 solutions making for a starting price of $189.99 after rebate for those options. Separate from the drive only rebate, up to 5 external solutions may also be claimed per customer/location/household. The above 200GB 7200RPM Rebates are valid for purchases through 3/31/2008.

Also available œ we have a special on 200GB Seagate Momentus 7200.2 7200RPM 16MB Cache 2.5" Notebook Drive with G-Force anti-shock protection at the XLR8YourMac reader price of $139.50. These units carry an OWC 1 year Warranty (no Seagate Factory Warranty).

As long as looking at MacBook/MacBook Pro drives... We've got two awesome laptop stands on special from $29.50.
The VidPro SN-925 is a sturdy desktop stand that is a good value for that alone at $29.50 - when you also look at the built in (and clutter reducing) USB 2.0 6-Port Powered Hub + Media Card Reader, it's a heck of a buy.
The VidPro SN-935 is more of the same with a little upgrade to the stand + it's bundled with a Wireless Keyboard & Mouse combination for $20 more at $49.50.

For those of you that have a display at a "home base setup" for when you're not on the road, these stands really position the laptop well for to get that '2nd display' benefit + the hub for the one cable to all USB 2.0 devices connectivity.

Why so low? These used to retail for about double, these are part of a really super deal/special purchase. :)
Check 'em out here at the extra special XLR8yourMac pricing:

(Larry later wrote)
The $30, $60, $120 Hitachi Rebate offer expires tomorrow. Need to order by 3/19/2008 6PM CST to still be able qualify for these different rebate offers. $30 for the Single Drive, $60 for Dual-Drive, and $120 on the 4-Drive solutions using Hitachi 1.0TB Drives inside.
And... Can also get $30 back on the bare, 1TB drive only which now $235.00 after that Rebate..."

Other notebook drives up to 320GB and several models of desktop drives up to 1TB are also on the site specials page.

Apple releases Safari 3.1
From Apple's news page today:

"Now Available: Safari 3.1
Apple today introduced the world's fastest web browser for Mac and Windows PCs - Safari 3.1. In addition to loading web pages 1.9 times faster than Internet Explorer 7 and 1.7 times faster than FireFox 2, Safari 3.1 runs JavaScript up to six times faster than other browsers. Available for free download for Mac OS X and Windows, Safari 3.1 is also the browser to support the latest innovative web standards needed to deliver the next generation of highly interactive Web 2.0 experiences."

Available via software update (Macs) and this download page (D/L link there goes to http://www.apple.com/safari/download/) which says:

" This update is recommended for all Safari users and features improvements to stability, compatibility, JavaScript performance and security.
Requirements: OS X 10.4.1, OS X 10.5.2, Windows XP, Windows Vista"
Apple also has posted some Safari 3.1 related docs with more details on the changes:

I've downloaded the update but not installed it yet (will later today) but If you find this update fixes or breaks anything (including Safari 3rd party addons) let me know. (Please include versions of any addons you see a problem with in case there's a later version released.)
FYI: I've now posted a page with Safari 3.1 reader feedback.

More Feedback on Mac ATI 2600XT Firmware Update
I've updated the page of Feedback on Mac ATI 2600XT Firmware Update with another report - 2nd one noting no video after the update. (Not everyone saw that problem although several readers got replacement cards from Apple after seeing various problems after the update.)

Feedback on Disk Warrior 4.1 CD Update
I don't own DW 4 (yet at least) but had a few readers send comments on the 4.1 CD update released yesterday that I've added to a previous page of Diskwarrior 4 User reports . (Some noted problems creating an updated CD, one comment on a suspected bug.)
