Examination Report on some iBook G4 Vreg. solder joints cracking over time
PCworld has an article today titled Danish Agency Finds Apple iBook Design Flaw that refers to a technical report (PDF) (FYI -Preview/10.3.9 here could not read the file, I used Acrobat reader instead) on examination of iBook G4 800MHz and 1GHz Models (2004) conducted after complaints on some machines not powering up. The examination found problems with solder joints failing (cracks) over time on a voltage regulator. (This reminded me of the iBook G3 Logic board issues (BGA GPU chip solder joint failures, due to board flex reportedly.)

Article on Using the Mac Pro's 2 extra onboard SATA Ports w/External SATA Case Kit
"Vader" sent a long mail on Using the Mac Pro's 2 extra onboard SATA Ports w/External SATA Case Kit, using the Newer Tech SATA cable/PCI bracket kit and a 2-drive External case kit with two 500GB Maxtors. He wanted a way to backup his entire internal 4x250GB RAID volume to SATA drives without buying a PCI controller or a more expensive FW/USB external drive solution. He was pleased with the performance and cost..

PCI Ethernet Card Compatibility page updated
I've updated the page on OS X Compatible PCI Ethernet cards with 3 new reports - a D-Link DGE-528T (Gigabit) in a G5 Tower (10.4.9, using realtek drivers), Airnet AEG100 (Gigabit) in a Blue and White G3 (noted native support in OS X 10.4) and a G3 Mac user report on no D-Link drivers for the DFE530TX+ (10/100) card - although I included a link to Realtek's 8139 drivers page with OS X 10.4 (and OS 9.0/9.1) downloads - if the card is still based on that chip. (It was several years ago.)
