EyeTV 3.0.2 Update released, details on changes/fixes
Appears in EyeTV Software Update check as EyeTV 3.0.2 (3740) and should be listed soon at ElGato's EyeTV Updates page (it's now been updated w/3.0.2 changes although not the full bug list included in the readme - but see link below). Thanks to David for the heads-up :

"I just wanted to give you a quick heads up on a new version of EyeTV. .. it does have some interesting stuff for specific regions. For example, users in the US will benefit from Closed Caption support in QuickTime Exports.

Users in Sweden will gain an Electronic Programming Guide, and there is now full support for H.264 broadcasts. The H.264 format is used in Norway, New Zealand and soon in the UK with the launch of Freesat.

There are lots of other small but helpful enhancements to the product, like a new Unwatched Recordings badge and improved on screen menus. (and Separate Deinterlacing Options for Standard TV and HDTV now) Also there are a number of bug fixes included...
Best regards, David F."

Due to the length, here's a separate page with a copy of the EyeTV v3.0.2 readme with details on changes, hardware support and complete bugfix listing.

Looking for feedback from CPU Upgraded Macs running OS X Leopard
After seeing an article today from Computerworld titled Leopard at six months: Does it live up to the early hype? and getting this mail from a CPU Upgraded G4 tower owner (happily running OS X Tiger) considering upgrading to Leopard I thought I'd ask for feedback from readers running Leopard for awhile on their CPU Upgraded Macs to see what their current experiences were (was it worth it, recap on any issues, etc.)

" ... I'm using a DA 2xG4-533MHz that's been upgrade with a NewerTech Dual G4 1.7GHz (7448) card. It runs 10.4.11 like a dream. Just wondering whether I should step into the 10.5 realm... :-)

What are folks experiencing with 10.5 on upgraded, older hardware such as mine ? Are they happy with 10.5 or do they wish they'd stayed with 10.4 ?
Thanks, Rich "

I sent Rich some links to previous posts from last fall on potential issues such as the (old one) where upgrades running non-integer bus/cpu ratios (i.e. 10.5x, 11.5x, 12.5x, 13.5x, etc. vs 10x, 11x, 12x, etc.) have misreported CPU speeds resulting in the 10.5 installer check refusing due to not meeting the speed requirements. (Often there were software extensions to correct this in the past - but they of course are not running when booted from the OS X 10.5 DVD - editing the installer check, FW target disc mode installs, calling patches/extensions from the terminal, etc. were noted workarounds and some Sonnet upgrade owners noted their firmware patch addressed the misreported CPU speeds issue)
Here's some past links to those archived news pages (taken from the 10.5 feedback/tips/info page and archives here)

  • CPU Upgrades and Leopard Installs Revisited (GD ratio change fix, Sonnet firmware patch) (GD=Gigadesign - their website is gone now so no way to d/l their software anymore)
  • Tips for those that had 10.5 DVD refuse to install on CPU Upgraded Macs

And as with any major OS X update, there's also been reports on issues with 10.5 and some PCI cards (USB, SATA, etc.) - in some cases updates (OS and/or firmware/drivers) may help but just a FYI to consider that also, as well as checking all your addon software (including codecs, startup/login items, browser addons, etc.) for OS X 10.5 compat. (and check for any updates to them).
And of course even on later/modern Macs, Leopard had some issues also (too many to recap here) but his mail gave me the idea to ask for current feedback from CPU Upgraded Mac owners running Leopard now that it's been out for awhile.

If you're running OS X Leopard on a CPU Upgraded Mac, let me know what your experience has been (satisfied with the decision to upgrade? Performance OK? Any issues seen with your hardware or software?, etc.) Please include the following info in your report

    • Mac system details (model, etc.)
    • CPU Upgrade details (brand/model/speed)
    • Any 3rd party hardware installed or attached (PCI cards, Graphics card, FW or USB devices, etc.)
    • Info on Software apps, addons, startup/login items, etc. (especially if you saw a compat. issue)
    • How satisfied are you with OS X Leopard?

You can cut and paste the above (w/answer) into a mail and let me know what your experience has been. (Thanks!)
FYI On Friday morning I posted a page with the replies - see CPU Upgraded Macs and OS X Leopard. (As of 9AM May 9th there were 18 replies, most positive.)
