Feral reposts Mac F1 Racing game demo
A forum thread late last week noted that Feral had posted a Mac demo of F1 racing but it was pulled. An update to that thread today noted that Feral had reposted the Mac F1 demo (45MB) linked on their main front page at http://www.feral.co.uk/.
(Click on the spinning car icon there for the F1 Championship Season 2000 game info page. Their main page also has a linked F1 QT movie trailer.)

Third Reich WWII Total Conversion for Unreal Tournament

Popular PC gaming site Bluesnews today notes there's a release of a WWII total conversion mod for Unreal Tournament (original version, not UT 2003) called Third Reich. Windows and Mac versions are linked on their downloads page, however as I'm typing this the 95MB .ZIP file Mac download is available only at Fileplanet (registration required). Hopefully it will be mirrored elsewhere later (such as Macgamefiles).

Reader Reports on OS X 10.2.2 Update
I've posted a page of OS X 10.2.2 Update Reader Feedback. Notes/TIps on file system journaling are there, Norton Utilities owner reports that software doesn't recognize partitions after the update, reminders on OS X updates overwriting modified plugin files, a note that Yamaha CRW-F1 drive support (and Pioneer DVR-A05) was added, despite not being noted in the docs or at apple's itunes/compat. page yet. Also various reports on CPU upgraded older Macs.
Powerlogix sent a note that one Cube owner with their G4/800 (Single) CPU upgrade noted faster wake from sleep in 10.2.2. (From the comments it didn't sound like he had the common no video at all after wake from sleep reported in the CPU upgrades database here). If you had the wake from sleep problem fixed (or not) by 10.2.2 - let me know your system/upgrade details.
I'm also interested if older Mac owners with G4 CPU upgrades (or any upgrade that requires a Cache enabler) are working OK (with cache enabled) after the 10.2.2 update.

(from a reader email)

"Watson 1.6 is out, and with it has been included the EyeTV programming support i contributed.

-Ben"

I've added Ben's comments to the EyeTV reader reports page.

FWB ships Privacy Toolkit Volume 1
FWB sent a press release that their Privacy Toolkit volume 1 is now shipping. (Clip from their product info)

" Privacy Toolkit is a trio of easy-to-use applications designed to protect your data against unauthorized access. Privacy Toolkit Encryptor allows you to take files or folders and convert them to an encrypted secure, "Internet friendly" archive that can be stored on your computer or sent to a friend without worrying about prying eyes. ....The free Decryptor can be download here for recipients of files and folders encrypted with Privacy Toolkit.
Privacy Toolkit Shredder allows you to securely erase files from your computer..."

For more info see their product page.
(I suspect searching VT or Macupdate may find some similar freeware, shareware or commercial utilities.)

CDRW/CD/DVD/Hard Drive/Cardreader Compatibility Database Update Listing
The Drive Compatibility searchable database had 8 new reports added this morning. The database includes reports on Combo DVD-CDRW, CDROMs, DVD-ROM, DVD-RAM, DVD-R, CDRW, Hard Drives and Removables (tape drive, ORB, ZIP, MO drives, CF/Smartmedia readers, etc.) in all interface types (IDE, IDE RAID cards, Firewire, SCSI, adapters). Current total 8,984 reports. Here's a summary listing of today's new reports. (Does not include updates to previous entries. Entries with missing info, etc. are deleted.)

    Combo DVD+CDR Drive Reports:
  • IDE Toshiba R1002 (4x4x24x + 4x DVD ROM) in B&W G3 (OS X)

    IDE CDRW Drive Reports:
  • HP 9000i (didn't note speed) in B&W G3 (OS X)
  • Lite-On LTR-48125S (48x12x48x) in B&W G3 (OS X)
(using modified plugin for 10.2.1 in FAQ here)
(FYI - Illustrated CD drive install guide here covers G4 towers up to the Digital Audio Model, Beige G3 MT, B&W G3 and 8600/9600 Macs.)

    Firewire CDRW Drive Reports:
  • Lite-On LTR-40125S 40x12x48x (in FW case) used w/Beige G3 (OS 9.2)

    IDE Hard Drive Reports:
  • IBM Travelstar 40GNX 40GB in PowerBook G3 2000 (OS X)
  • IBM Travelstar 40GNX 40GB in PowerBook G3 2000 (OS X)
(PB Pismo illustrated HD install guide here)
  • Maxtor 60GB in iMac (OS 9.1)

    Firewire Hard Drive Reports:
  • AcomData HD040FE-CU 40GB used w/7500 (OS X)
    (listed under "other" brands)

You can find full owner reports (latest shown first) by searching the database by drive/brand/interface/mac models (the latest reports are shown first in searches). For guides to installing CD/CDRW/DVD drives or Hard drives in many mac models, see the IDE Articles page. The Firewire articles page also has guides on case kits, installing drives, etc.
If you've added a IDE, SCSI, Firewire or USB hard drive, CDRW, tape drive, etc. make sure you add a report to the database. [If you post an updated entry - make sure you use the same name, etc. as you did before so I can find your past entry. Thanks.]
(Entries today will be added the following newsday. Incomplete entries are deleted. Do not post questions in the database, it's for drive reports not questions on what drive to buy - for that try searching the database for reports from owners of your mac model on the drive type/brand/interface, etc. you're interested in.)
