David Diokno wrote that VST will be shipping their Superdisk expansion bay drives starting tomorrow. Although superdisks are much slower than ZIP drives they do have the advantage of being backward compatible with floppies. I've got so many ZIP drives (incl. the VST ZIP) I'll still with them for now.

Joel (aka the 'Slagman') sent a note that he has a MacQuake site posted at http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Horizon/4803/quake.htm. (I wish Geocities would get rid of those annoying pop-up box ads...)

One reader reported errors trying to flash a Mac bios in a PC Millennium (in response to recent posts on this working by other readers). He says the had the bios write switch in the correct position but still gets errors. Perhaps the card is bad, not seated or the firmware used is not for that model millennium (there are Millennium 1 and 2's).

I've updated the Unreal Tips and Tricks page to include Franks's latest news including:

  • Call for reader submitted screenshots with 1.02b1 and several different video cards
  • More info on patch 219
  • Mac-PC Multiplayer incompatibility
  • Camper secret spot in addon Map
  • Klingon Honor Guard Tip
  • Cool Unreal engine graphics
  • DMBronx wins Map of the Week

Jim Tourtouras reported problems with his Mac Magic 3dfx card in Carmageddon 3Dfx (quitting after 1-2 minutes with a type 3 error). I suggested he check and/or post at our new 3Dfx message board, which seems to get a lot of MacMagic owner traffic.

I'm taking the rest of the day off to recooperate and just relax after the last two days on the roof (my back's killing me).

Note: Before sending tech support related questions please check the Freq. Asked Questions, Site Contents, CPU Card reviews/articles, SCSI reviews articles, Graphics card reviews, Tips/Misc, Message Boards and Help pages - in many cases the answers to your questions are there and they have far more detail than I can list in an email. For Apple G3 system info - see the G3-ZONE. News and guest reviews that don't require a reply are always welcome.

Make a Difference: Be the Difference
Randy Mita, Brad Lau and I came up with a new slogan and theme for Mac advocacy - "Make a Difference: Be the Difference". We're asking that all Mac owners take advantage of every opportunity to let others know the Mac advantage. It's a grass-roots approach that will surely help. You might save someone from a lifetime of Windows in the bargain.
