OS 8.5/Remus Lite Problems?: I've gotten two reports from Nubus Mac owners that Remus Lite v1.4 is not compatible with OS 8.5, at least in their configurations. Brian Keith Light sent a detailed explanation of the problem that I've also linked in my OS 8.5 Feedback page. I've asked if he used the Remus Lite 1.4 updater at: http://www.adaptec.com/products/faqs/rem14u.html. That update was before OS 8.5 was released and I'm not sure if it would help. (Adaptec says Remus should work fine under OS 8.5).

Now that the iMac will have the RagePro and 6MB Vram (hopefully in US Stores soon), I want to get one for Kay as a combo Christmas present and wedding anniversary gift (we were married last Christmas day). [I didn't manage to buy an iMac until fall 1999 - see the review of the iMac DV SE.]

Netscape Printing Feedback: One reader replied that it was a pre OS 8.5 issue and suggests a fix:

" Dear Mike,
I am still using OS8.1, but I experienced the postage stamp size problem after upgradint to Netscape 4.5 from 4.0.x. The problem apparently is not due to OS8.5. If you select "Page Setup" in the File menu in Netscape4.5, you would find a checkbox for "Fit to page if possible". In Netscape4.5, this seems to be checked as default. If you leave it checked, you'll end up getting postage size printout. Unchecking that box would bring normal size printout.
Roland Lim "

However I have received several other printing problem reports. One service tech said he could not print in IE 4.0 but was ok in Netscape. He strongly suggested a clean install of OS 8.5 and a reinstall of problem apps like this. He commented the installer uses some logic on what needs to be updated if you upgrade a previous OS version and therefore he felt a clean install was the safest and most trouble-free way to upgrade to OS 8.5. Conflict Catcher 8's intelligent migration feature is a great tool to update a clean install with your previous extensions and other software I hear.

OS 8.5/Netscape 4.5 Printing Problems: Several readers have commented that printing web pages under Netscape 4.5 in OS 8.5 results in postage stamp size pages. If anyone has a fix or workaround please contact me.

Mac Audio Issue 22: Thad Brown sent Issue 22 of our Mac Audio Column covering feedback on cheap audio cards and Apple news on OS X. The latest issue and links to back issues are always at http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/audio/.

MacOpinion has new articles titled Pedants' Corner and A MacHead's Heartache (OS support for clones).

Make a Difference: Be the Difference
Randy Mita, Brad Lau and I came up with a new slogan and theme for Mac advocacy - "Make a Difference: Be the Difference". We're asking that all Mac owners take advantage of every opportunity to let others know the Mac advantage. It's a grass-roots approach that will surely help.
