| M-Audio Transit USB 1.5.9 driver update |
| MU today lists the Transit 1.5.9 driver (dated yesterday):
"
M-Audio Transit USB 1.5.9 Updater adds the following:
Fixed a problem that could cause a system hang when a Powerbook
is put to sleep with the Transit active.
Fixed a problem that caused the Transit to report to CoreAudio
that it supported AC-3 when AC-3 mode was not selected in the preference
pane.
Fixed problem that caused a memory leak when the Transit was
unplugged.
Requirements: Mac OS X 10.2 or later."
If you visit the m-audio website, remember to have the browser set to allow cookies, otherwise it just loops constantly here in Safari.
I don't own a Transit personally but I'm hoping this update may fix some of the problems owners reported here in the past on the Transit feedback page.
If any Transit owners try this driver update, let me know if it helps. (Include your OS version, system details and Transit driver version used in reports. Thanks.)

| Pioneer DVR-108 1.14 Firmware Update |
As with the 1.10 firmware update, the USA Pioneer page
trails this Pioneer Japan page which now has v1.14 firmware updates listed. (There's 3 drive model/versions of the 108 listed there. As before, owners of OEM DVR-108 drives should use the "BK download version to flash their drives.) As before, the 108 updaters are PC flashers so you'll need a real PC to update the drive (although VirtualPC was used to flash some optical drives if installed in a USB case - VPC will not flash onboard IDE or Firewire drives.)
Here's the change info for the 1.14 firmware from their Firmware version history page which has the same
notes as the previous 1.10 firmware update:
- Reduction of 12X/16X DVD-R Writing time
- DVD-R Writability Improvement
- Reduction of 12X/16X +R Writing time
- +R Writability Improvement
- CD-R Writability Improvement
- DVD Playability Improvement
- CD Playability Improvement
Hopefully soon DVRflash will be updated to support the 108 drive.
(The FAQ's DVD section links to it as an OS X flasher for DVR-107 and older model drives.)

| CDRW/CD/DVD/Hard Drive/Cardreader Compatibility Database Update Listing |
| The Drive Compatibility Database had 4 new reports added this morning. (Entries from Tuesday, entries today are added the next newsday morning.) The database includes reports on Combo DVD-CDRW, CDROMs, DVD-ROM, DVD-RAM, DVD-R, DVD+R, CDRW, Hard Drives and Removables (tape drive, ORB, ZIP, MO drives, CF/Smartmedia readers, etc.) in all interface types (IDE, IDE RAID cards, Firewire, SCSI, USB, adapters). Current total 13,590 reports. (searching by drive type/brand, mac model etc. listed below will show the full reports, most recent first - does not include updates to previous reports)
DVD-ROM Drives:
- IDE Panasonic SR-8686-c (16x/48x) in B&W G3 (OS X 10.3)
(Illustrated CD drive install guide here covers B&W G3)
DVD+RW Drives:
- IDE NEC ND-1100A in B&W G3 (OS X 10.3)
(no native iApps burn support, suggested using Patchburn II for Panther.)
DVD+R/RW + DVD-R/RW Drives:
- IDE Pioneer DVR-A07XLA (DVR-107D) in (MDD) Single G4 DDR (OS X 10.3)
(native burn support in 10.3.3 and later. FAQ's DVD section links to
firmware updates. Illustrated CD drive install guide here covers G4 towers up to the Digital Audio model)
Hard Drives:
- IDE Toshiba HDD2193 40GB in iBook 2001 (OS X)
(see iBook section of the FAQ for links to drive upgrade guides/take-apart articles)
You can find full owner reports (latest shown first) by searching the database by drive/brand/interface/mac models (the latest reports are shown first in searches).
For guides to installing CD/CDRW/DVD drives or Hard drives in many mac models, see the IDE Articles page. The Firewire articles page also has guides on case kits, installing drives, etc. If you've added a IDE, SCSI, Firewire or USB hard drive, CDRW, tape drive, etc. make sure you add a report to the database. (If you post an updated entry - make sure you use the same name, etc. as you did before so I can find your past entry. Thanks.)
(Incomplete entries are deleted. Do not post questions in the database, it's for drive reports not questions on what drive to buy - for that try searching the database for reports from owners of your mac model on the drive type/brand/interface, etc. you're interested in.)
