More feedback on Apple Alum Keyboard
I've added a couple more reports to the page on Apple's thin AL keyboard, including one user wanting to remap several of the dedicated keys and a reader noting some (mighty mouse) performance issues using a USB 2.0 PCI card for the keyboard mouse connection. (Direct connect to mac helped.)

G5 Coolant Leaks page updated (machine replaced under Applecare)
I've updated the page on G5 Tower coolant leaks with a report from a Dual 2.7GHz G5 that spotted a leak (early) after 28 months) of use. He had the Applecare extended warranty and said replacement parts could not be obtained after 19 days, so Apple replaced the machine with a Mac Pro 2.66GHz.

More Notes/Tips on PPC to Intel Mac Migration Assistant
(reply to a post in Monday's news on Migrating PPC to Intel via External HD )

"Judging by the questions now appearing on several online forums, it seems as though many people are having problems migrating from some older Mac models to Intel Macs, particularly from Quicksilver G4's to new iMacs.

I had exactly this problem with a new 24", 2.4 GHz iMac and a Quicksilver G4. Using Migration Assistant on the iMac and with the Quicksilver started in target disk mode the iMac doesn't recognize the G4. (Just curious - was the target QS drive a master?) Yes.
Migration Assistant on the iMac shows a greyed out "Continue" button in the "Restart Your Old Mac" window. And no combination of restarting and/or removing/replacing cables helps at all.

However, connected to a Powerbook G4 the Quicksilver mounted as normal in Target Disk Mode. And the iMac also mounted without problem in Target Disk Mode when connected to the Powerbook. Hmmm?

After much thought the solution was to insert another device into the firewire chain. In my case it was an external firewire CD Burner. Immediately the iMac could see the G4 and Migration Assistant successfully transferred the user accounts.

I can't explain why this worked, I just hope it helps somebody else avoid an otherwise very time consuming manual migration process.
-David "

Reader Request: Anyone using a WD 250GB PATA Drive in their PB G4?
A reader with an AL Powerbook G4 asked if anyone is using the Western Digital WD2500BEVE (PATA) 250GB drive in their Powerbook. The drive specs (Height, etc.) are ok and I suspect it would be fine but if anyone is using this drive in their late model PowerBook (later models have 48bit addressing/Big drive support) let me know. Thanks.
(The drive database has reports from PB G4 owners on other models but not the WD 250GB to date at least - but this drive hasn't been around for very long and may be hard to find in stock in the USA.)

MacBook Pro owner comments on sleep problems, OSX 10.4.10 memory leaks
Update - Due to the number and length of the replies to this, I've added them all on a separate page which includes notes on memory use (and link to apple doc on that subject), more comments on memory usage and sleep issue from other owners, etc.
