Apple posts HP Printer Drivers Update for 10.6.1 |
This was posted at Apple's downloads page tonight (Thursday) - but first see if Software Update shows any updates for your HP Printer (rather than downloading/installing this entire package). The Apple page/download previously had HP drivers already included on the 10.6.0 DVD, but was updated Thursday and now notes 10.6.1 required.
"
HP Printer Drivers for Mac OS X v10.6.1
Version 2.1
This download includes the latest HP printing and scanning software for Snow Leopard.
Requires Mac OS X v10.6.1 or later.
For information about supported printer models, see: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669
(previous doc "OS X v10.6: Printer and scanner software" updated again. An "*" next to a printer/scanner model number denotes an updated driver, a "+" means a recently added model.-Mike)
If anyone finds this update/and or 10.6.1 helps with their HP printer, send a note. Thanks.
(BTW - Although an HP 970CXI printer user he still can print 2-sided (duplex), an HP Laserjet 2300dn user wrote that's now working for him in 10.6.1 w/updated HP driver for it.) |

iMac Graphics Firmware Update 1.0.2 for ATI 2600/2400 GPU models (doesn't apply here) |
Another update spotted at Apple today. (But see notes below - it's deja vu from April 2008...) If you don't see this update appear in software update, I doubt it will apply using the download either.
"iMac Graphics FW Update 1.0.2
This update is for iMac computers with an ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro or ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT graphics card installed, running Mac OS X 10.5.2 or later.
It updates the graphics card firmware on the ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro or ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT graphics card in the iMac to improve system stability."
FYI - several owners of these iMacs are reporting this update was not needed/wouldn't apply. (Has -anyone- had this update apply?)
It did not appear in software update on a 2007 AL iMac here (w/ATI 2600 graphics). That reminded me of the previous iMac ATI Radeon HD Graphics Firmware Update 1.0.1 released in Late April 2008. That page had info on the ATI ROM version after the update. And even that update would not apply on my 2007 AL iMac w/2600 ATI graphics that had an -older- ATI Rom version than the updater supposedly had. But a day or so later, Apple revised that doc to note it was only for "Early 2008" models (not my fall 2007 model) - and again later revised the doc to note the 2 specific ATI rom versions it was actually targeted for.
So tonight after hearing the same thing on the 'new' 1.0.2 update, I tried the 1.0.2 download updater on this 2007 AL iMac w/ATI 2600 gpu - it reported "your computer does not need this update".
(I really wish Apple would be more specific about their firmware updates. But they may revise the doc later (as they did last time) to note more specific requirements/target. And I wonder if it's just an updated installer and not newer ATI firmware than the April 2008 1.0.1 update for 'early 2008' iMacs. Owners of that model may have already applied the earlier update, or later builds may already have that ROM. If I can get some spare time I'll dig into this and try to find out more details.) |

Apple RAID card (pre-2009 model) Firmware Update (bug fixes/10.6 compat.) |
"
Apple RAID Card Firmware Update
This update provides several fixes, including:
Reliability improvements during boot and power fail recovery
Addresses a potential issue when rebuilding a degraded RAID 5
Resolves an issue that can fill the on-board flash file system
Improves battery handling and reporting
(FYI - the "About" Doc also lists " improves compatibility with Mac OS X v10.6 and Mac OS X Server v10.6.")
The update is recommend for all Mac Pro (Late 2006, Early 2008) and Xserve (Late 2006, Early 2008) systems with the Apple RAID card.
The updater application will be installed in the /Applications/Utilities folder and will launch automatically. Please follow the instructions in the updater application to complete the update process.
For detailed information on this update, please visit http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3784."
That HT3784 link ("About Apple RAID Card Firmware Update 1.0") 404'd (not found) when I first posted this but is online now - it includes this note about firmware versions and requirements (this is just a clip, see doc for complete details).
"About the Apple RAID Card Firmware Update 1.0
...This update requires Mac OS X or Mac OS X Server v10.5.8 or later and current EFI Boot ROM. You will need to reboot your computer as part of the update process.
Apple RAID Card Firmware Update 1.0 updates RAID card firmware versions M-1.3.0.6 and M-2.0.3.3 to M-2.0.5.5. If your RAID card firmware version begins with E, you have a newer version of the Apple RAID Card, and you do not need this update.
For more information about identifying which version of the card you have, see Mac Pro RAID Card: Identification and compatibility or Xserve RAID Card: Identification and compatibility..." |

OS X 10.6.1 Update released |
Appears today in Software Update. (No D/L was online when I first posted this, but SU downloads the updater then quits everything to apply it.) Here's the list from the doc About the Mac OS X v10.6.1 Update:
- Improves compatibility with some Sierra Wireless 3G modems
- Addresses an issue in which some printer compatibility drivers might not appear properly in the Add Printer browser
- Addresses an issue that might cause DVD playback to stop unexpectedly
- Addresses an issue that might make it difficult to remove an item from the Dock
- Resolves an issue in which the Command-Option-T keyboard shortcut would sometimes bring up the special characters menu in applications such as Mail and TextEdit
- Addresses instances in which auto account setup in Mail might not work
- Resolves issues when sending mail with certain SMTP servers
- Addresses an issue in which Motion 4 could become unresponsive
- Includes an update to Adobe Flash Player plug-in version 10.0.32.18
The doc About the security content of the Mac OS X v10.6.1 Update simply lists the older Flash player plugin issues (10.6.0 installed older version) which are fixed in Flash 10.0.32.18.
If the OS X 10.6.1 update fixes problems you had previously, let me know the details. Thanks. (Also check SU for updated HP Printer drivers - mentioned in later post above.)
I've had tons of mails on OS X 10.6.0 printer problems, no duplex (2-sided) printing support, some mail/keychain problems, etc..
(BTW - an HP 970CXI printer user said 10.6.1/HP drivers update did not enable duplex printing - although a HP Laserjet 2300dn user wrote it's now working for him in 10.6.1 + HP driver update.)
These weren't online when I first posted the above, but here's the download pages for Mac OS X v10.6.1 Updater and Mac OS X Server v10.6.1 Updater. |
