Newer Tech's G3 Upgrade for Umax C500/C600s

This page will list feedback from UMax C500/C600 owners regarding G3 CPU Upgrades. If you have Umax C500/C600 info to share, please contact me.

Derrick C Chilton writes about his Newer Tech upgrade :

" It arrived today :-)
I got the 220/110 version

It took 5 mins to install. Easy to do.
I had a c500 160 MHz 603e.
I'm running OS 7.6.1, with a Power 3D and Formac Proformance 40 video cards and 112 Mb Ram

Installing the MaxPwr G3 control panel and MathLibMoto supplied on a floppy.
The control panel allows you to select different Backside cache speeds

  • 1:1
  • 1:1.5
  • 1:2
  • 1:2.5
  • 1:3
It did not allow me to select the 1:1 setting, but I am using 1:1.5 setting. [Disabled since the cache chips are not fast enough for this speed, it would have locked the system up-Mike]

Using Nortons System info, my base system with 603e and video cards was rated 174, it is now 549, 3x improvment. The video preformance increased by over 400%

Using MacBench 5.0:

  • CPU: 630
  • DISK: 646
  • FPU: 930

The FPU result is very suprising considering it's being compared to a 300MHz G3 [Note: that's due to LibMoto being installed, it boosts FPU scores in MacBench by a large margin and was not used for the MacBench 1000 score of the Apple G3/300.-Mike]

Quake 3dfx speed has blown me away. Well over 30fps in 640*480. Roll on Unreal...

Keep up the good work.
Derrick... "
