Mac Rainbow Six Column: 4th Issue
by Simon Purll
Posted: 1/23/2000Weapons and Weapons Mods! This issue will cover the use of the new Mods available from third parties. The two I will be discussing both ran flawlessly with R6. I did have problems seeing some weapons in Eagle Watch though, still many more weapons are now available to Mac Special Forces!
I would like to skip the Sun Devil mission because it is a straight kill-em-all mission, no real strategy needed, just don't shoot the hostages. The Ghost Dance mission (Pirates of the Caribbean) is a more difficult affair, but can be conquered by clearing the upper catwalks first, followed by the ground floor. Back to the mods.
Firstly, I would like to thank the parties responsible for a job well done-you just made a great game much better! Thank you.
The two I checked out are BF Arsenalv2.1 and Sgt Peppers' MacNato2. They both have their pros and cons, which we'll discuss below:
BFArsenal2.1 Mod
Simple installation, just drag/copy files from folders to overwrite your R6 files. No installer, but has a good read me section-be sure to read it. I saw some garbled graphics in Slot1/2 with this mod, but nothing that hampered gameplay.
Weapons:
33 weapons. Mostly loaded with silenced short-range assault weapons and a few sniper rifles. Swapping weapons in/out is recommended here. (See method below.)The MP5-SD 10mm is a great weapon, as is the Steyr AUG A1, but the SIG 550 family of room-sweepers is missing from this one. The TCI M89 sniper rifle is a 'killer' weapon for the ghillie-suited creepers out there. Semi-auto, super accurate and good zoom.
The silenced SR60-Robar is awesome too, probably more accurate than the TCI, but not semi-auto. Honorable mention goes to the SAKO TRG-21, a good third choice.
Altogether a great port of the PC Nato2 mod, with awesome sounds. I don't use the snub-nosed machine pistols, magazines too small, rate of fire high, and zooms are bad, as is accuracy.
MacNato2 Mod
Uses an installer and works flawlessly with R6. Also a port of PC Nato2 mod, this has a more well-rounded selection of weapons (175!!)and better graphics in the weapons dialog. The HK MP5, SIG, AK 103/4 and Steyr families of silenced and unsilenced weapons are all you'll need. Although everyone has their personal preference, for me, the best weapons are the following:
Assault Weapons
SIG SG/552 Commando - Incredibly accurate, high pulse rate, great zoom.
Enfield L85A1 5.56 - Had problems in the Gulf, but not R6. Great all-round 'roombroom.'
SIG SG/550/551/552 - Can't go wrong here!
Steyr AUG-A2 SD - Silent and deadly , never fails!
AKSU-74SD - Good for clearing rooms, SIG family better at long range.Snipers
Knight SR25K-SD Widowmaker 7.62 - High-speed firepower at long range.
50Cal Barrett family - One shot , no tango.Pistols
All SIGs, the Glock long barrels, and Desert Eagle 50 cal scoped/unscopedThe best thing about Nato2 is the 175 weapons listed. The downside is that R6 only allows 32 Primary and Secondary weapons. YOU must edit the list to get the weapons you want. You don't have to be a hacker to do this.
Do the following:If the inventory name does not match the weapon in the weapond dialog, these files are mismatched. Gameplay won't be affected, but choosing weapons will be more difficult. Using this method, swap your favourite weapons in/out of R6. After a while, you will find a core of favorites you will stick with, trusted tools of the trade. Have fun!
- Open Data2/Kit-open "primary.itm" with SimpleText.
Place a "//" before each weapon you don't want.- Now go to Data2/text/kit/english and open the "primary.txt" file.
You will see a list of weapons. Edit out exactly the same weapons using "//" that you did in the kit folder.
- Both of these files must match.
Don't change the "number of weapons" number at the top.
- Save both files.
Mac R6 fans will never want to play R6 again without these weapons! Thanks to Sgt Pepper and Traxus IV.
Issue #5 covers Tips and Strategies for Misson: Blue Sky (The Damn Dam).
