Posted: 1/26/2000Misson: Blue Sky (The Damn Dam) Objective: Rescue Roland Kunst
We're going to cover all three levels in one here. In the recruit level, Kunst is all you're after. Rescue him and your're done. In veteran and elite levels you must also disarm four bombs deep in the bowels of the dam wall.
Weapons:
Stealth is key, so use "Tan Light"uniform (matches concrete walls and lower tunnels) and (BF Arsenal 2.1 mod used) Steyr AUG A2-SD. Silence is key. SIG-P226SD or other silenced pistol. Add frags for clearing lower tunnels. You will need these, so use sparingly. Assign this kit to all operatives.
Strategy:
Route: Initialize in the tunnel and proceed to first stairs on your right. Drop any guards on the dam access road. Check for a guard in the tower. Proceed down stairs onto lower level on the water. Run past first ladder and door, past second ladder to second door. You will have to drop guard on lowel level so don't run too fast. Down one flight to your left, you will see a white square (hostage), navigate to him. Hug the wall on catwalk so you don't get hit from below.
Scan until clear, and then run to Kunst. Escort him out the way you came.
On harder levels, continue downstairs to Level 6. Clear to the middle of the map. Look for a yellow square on the turbine on Level 6. This is bomb #1. Clear the room and disarm the bomb. Continue past the turbine to the stairs beyond. Descend to Level 2, where two more bombs are visible. Place waypoints directly to the bombs. Disarm them, then kill terrorists.
TIP: Use tunnels whenever possible to avoid being hit from above or below.
Always use cover on one side when in the open, a wall, a turbine, or anything that means you need cover only one side of your body, i.e. left or right, but not both.
Navigate to descending stairs on Level 2, and get down to Level 1. There you will see the final bomb. Disarm it, and the mission is over. Use your planning dialogue to carefully plot your descent into the dam. Steer clear of Tangos if you can, or take them on...it's your life!
You can use one of three strategies:
1. Descend and engage-kill Tangos as you move to the targets.
2. Descend and evade-use Stealth to disarm bombs, only killing guards at the targets themselves.
3. Disarm, then engage-use strategy #2 to get to the targets, and then clear the enemy on your egress.
Personally, I have found a combination of Strategy #1 and #2 works well. Use Stealth and your way-point planning to engage Bandits close to and at the bomb, ignore outlying guards that are not a threat. If they patrol closer to you, take them out.
Use your heartbeat sensor to check for patrolling sentries. This is a good map to use multiple teams. It can be completed with a four-man team., but a multi-team strategy can be used in many ways.
Use Red and Blue Team, four men each. Using the above three strategies, assign a job to each team.
1. Red Team takes on stairwell #1 and two bombs. Create a route.
Blue Team takes on stairwell #2 and two bombs. Create a route.2. Red Team evades and takes targets (bombs) on lower two levels.
Blue Team evades and takes targes (bombs) on upper two levels.3. Uses strategy #2, but teams clear alternate levels, staying clear of one another.
Use the status key a lot here!
Conclusion:
This is a fun map, but you must use a planned route to the objectives or the lower levels will humble you.
Scan in a 3D plane -or you will not get down to the bottom floor and the last bomb. Have fun!Back Issues:
