The Story:
Once leaving stock car racing a few years back you head to New York for police work. Being the skilled driver you are you later decide to head to Miami to go undercover. Your name is Tanner. You pose as a gateway driver for one of the most powerful and serious crime organizations: The Castaldi Family. So hit the streets, but watch your back because every move you make will determine what happens next.
GamePlay:
Well this is what the story line wants you to think, but its just like any game its fun and addictive. My first impression got me hooked. The game is filled with non stop action that leaves you wanting more. It doesn’t contain violence like Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament, so its great for all ages. The setting takes place during the 70’s era. You basically drive around 4 of the most populated cities in the nation; Miami, San Francisco, L.A. and New York, getting away from the big heists. There’s around 40 levels, each have objective to accomplish. You face real life obstacles: traffic, signals, crazy police cars, and pedestrians. When driving you also may experience damage with may cause your car to break down. Some of the levels are timed like the level in the demo version. Once beating the game you have the option of selecting cheat options if you wish. There's 16 different cars which all are high powered and fast like the Buick Skylark. Just about every mission has a short movie clip before or after the mission giving detail to the unfolding story line during the game.
Hardware Requirements:
The hardware required to run this game isn't demanding. Any computer with 64mb of ram, a G3 or above, rage pro graphics card (also supports glide) or better, and Mac OS 8.6 or higher. This means it will run on a iMac rev.A, provided that you have enough V-ram installed, it will also works on a voodoo 1. (I've run it on my PB G4/400 also. A nice plus is it doesn't require the CD in the drive to play-Mike)
Features/Performance:
So far multiplayer game play seems out of the picture. The scenery and lay out of the 4 cites isn't as stunning as many would probably like. This game has been out on play station for some time now, but its still worth the buy. There is no benchmark available. The frame rate seems choppy at times when game play gets complex. There seems to be one resolution 640x480 and on my Voodoo 3 the refresh rate seems to be 60hz. On the other hand the graphics were satisfactory nothing amazing, but the game play makes up for this.
I've noticed a few bugs on and off when playing the game. Many are sound related. For the glide version there seems to be artifacts that appear some times during game play. After taking snap shots of the game its seems more common than I thought. Most aren’t noticeable though. I hope Macsoft plans on a update in the near future. I haven’t tested the rave version of the game, so I don't know of any bugs related to that version as of yet.
The screen shots below were taken using Glide Hack on a Voodoo 3 in a 7500/G3-233 with 128Mb running OS 8.6.

Pros: Great game play, enhancing sound and music, Unfolding story goes great with theme, challenging.
Cons: Graphics have artifacts (on glide version), Sound bugs, One set screen resolution and refresh rate(on glide version), No frame rate benchmark.
(Note: Although it ran fine in OS 9.1 on my PowerBook G4/400, Driver was not playable under OS X 1.0 in classic mode. After the intro screens (company logos), the display goes black-Mike)

(In the future I may link in full 640x480 screens, but with traffic so high here lately I've avoided it for now since large images would slow the server down even more-Mike.)
