Game tips/tricks are noted first. Reader feedback on the game is below.
Map (City) and Weather Tips:
"Hi
I have been fiddling around with the demo and have found some stuff
not mentioned on your page.
If you want to play on the Frisco level
LoadMap "Frisco_01.lev"
//EventScript "Miami_19.des"
//OverheadMap "Maimi_00.map"
and to make sure you start on a road try this
SetPlayerPosition 84004, -87877
for changing the weather use 1 or more of these
Night
Raining
Lightning
if you find any more keywords let us know

Mother Of All Driver Tips/Hacks Site: Jamie (from the car tips below) found a site that lists most every hack and tip for Driver, including cheats for the full version of the game at www.bestcheats.com/pccheats/driver.htm.
Disabling Damage: Tim wrote with a tip to disable car damage:
"
Hi Mike,
If you comment out EnablePlayerDamage using //, you can play until your
car rolls over or better yet flys into the air...pretty cool.
Would be
nice if they put out a game where more than one player can play...
Tim"
There's no multiplayer in Driver (any platform, in version 1 at least). This was a negative pointed out in early reviews of the game when it first appeared for the PC.
Hack for Driving Additional Cars: A reader sent a tip to allow you to select additional cars in the demo. (Thanks to Jamie R.) First, make a backup of the "Mission661.dms" file (call it Mission661.bak or move the copy to another folder). Then open the Mission661.dms file in a text editor and locate the "PlayerCarType" setting. Changing the default 0 to one of the following numbers allows you to drive different cars:
0 - Original Car (default)
1 - Pickup (slow)
2 - Grand Prix
3 - Ugly Coupe (the one in "Chase 2")
4 - Camaro SS (120mph!!)
5 - Toronado
6 - Nova?
7 - Cadillac Sedan
8 - Bonneville?
9 - Chevelle?
10 - Caprice Police Cruiser (90mph)
11 - Cadillac Coupe
12 - Trans Am Firebird
13 - Caprice Checker Cab
14 - Cadillac Sedan
15 - NO CAR (don't use)
16 - Jaguar!! REALLY FAST!
17 - T-Bird REALLY FAST!
18 to 20 - NO CAR (don't use)
Jamie noted the game will crash if you enter a number with no car, but thought there were more than the above list. He also noted that cars 16 and 17 seem buggy (too fast/engine sounds cut out, etc.).
[12/6/2000] Several readers said that the extra missions tip noted yesterday at the Game News page changed their minds on buying the game.
For those that didn't read the 12/5/2000 Game News page, here's a repeat of the extra missions tip:
Driver Demo Tweaking Tips - Extra Missions! A reader sent a tip on hidden extra missions in the Driver Demo:
"
Works great for me set at High quality on a G3 350MHz with 128Mb RAM and the
Rage128 display card.
I did a little exploring and noticed that the Scripts folder contains a
Missions folder with 5 missions in it. The file mission661.dms is the
default getaway mission. By changing the name of any of the other 4 missions
to mission661.dms, you can play them instead. They are all drive around the
town missions that let you last a lot longer if you don't get the cops
attention. One has Rain and is at night! You can play in SF or Miami.
A
little further exploration will reveal that these files are just text
scripts, and you can easily modify them to play either city and turn off
player damage, make the cops weaker or better drivers, etc, etc. The full
game should be a blast and being able to hack out your own missions means
playing it should never become tiring.
Enjoy.

Feedback on the Game:
Other readers sent general feedback on the demo (latest reports first)
A Radeon card owner with DVI LCD display noted a lack of sync
in the initial screens:
"
Driver - The demo initial menu screen doesn't sync correctly on my G4
with Radeon and Apple Studio Display 15" DVI. The game plays fine
when I "blindly" select an option. I haven't yet tested it on my
Multiple Scan 20".
