| MaxPowr Pro 750 275/275 Product Description | |
|
As indicated in the name, the MaxPowr Pro 275/275 uses a G3/PPC750 CPU running at 275mhz with a 275mhz backside cache that's 1 MB in size. As with all Newer Tech G3 cards I've seen, the 275/275 shows very good quality of workmanship, and with nice touches like a removable support bar for use in the Apple Tower Macs like the 8500/9500. Removing it allows the card to fit in the low-profile cpu card Macs like the Power Computing line. The model I was sent works in most CPU upgradeable Mac's except the PowerCenter/PowerCenter Pro, but most retailers now should have that version available as well for PowerCenter owners looking to upgrade. Simply note that when you order (later models were compatible but verify this before buying). The package contents include the CPU card, version 1.31 software installation diskette, Speed Doubler 8, Ram Doubler 2, Virtual PC/Dos version, excellent installation manual and anti-static wrist strap. It is one of the most complete packages on the market. Although many buyers may already have some of the bundled software, it still adds value and is a nice feature. The manual is typical Newer style, very well illustrated with installation instructions and photos of Apple 73/75/7600, 85/8600, 95/9600, PowerComputing PowerTower Pro and Powerwave, and Umax S900 and J700 installation procedures. Since this model is brand new, it was not listed in the manual yet, but I assume the switch settings are the same as the 266mhz model. I did not change the default settings of the card - which are 45.81mhz bus speed and 274.9mhz CPU speed. According to Newer, this is the optimum setting for the card, and based on my tests of other G3 cards I tend to agree. Faster bus speeds do not increase performance based on extensive testing I've done in the past, and in many cases are nothing but headaches for other than Power Computing owners. Most Apple Mac models do not run well with bus speeds above 45mhz with most G3 upgrade cards, although there are exceptions. |
