512MB Dimms for PowerBook G4
1GB of Total RAM

Published: 4/18/2001

Pricing Note: Prices have fell dramatically as of fall 2001 on these 512MB modules for the PowerBook G4. (Original prices were $399 in April 2001 when this article was written - now they are 1/3 that or perhaps less.)

Transintl sent two of their new design low-profile 512MB SODIMMs on loan that I've been running in my PowerBook G4 since Saturday. The PB G4 had the 4.1.8 firmware update applied some time back and both modules are recognized by both OS 9.1 and OS X (see screenshots). I've had no problems of any kind running these under either OS version.

The image below shows a size comparison between my 256MB module and the new 512MB module.

To install the dimm in the lower slot, you have to temporarily lift out the keyboard support bar (it's just a slip fit).

support bar removed

The photo below hows both 512MB SODIMMs installed and how close the fit is on the upper slot due to the location of the support bar.

Close, but fits
