I just had an experience that I'd like to share with other MP users. I had an 8500 that was bought as upgrade (this means it comes with no processor, RAM and HD); Apple is having this offer in most european countries, I don't know the US. I bought an nPower 360 board from Daystar to be installed in this machine: the start of the nightmare. Bombs, freezes, even System 7.6 did not install (the installer was saying (this program can not run on this computer model). I blamed the Daystar board, but after a while I got hold of a single 604e @ 180 board: the bombs went away, but the System still refused to install. The end ? After a day spent in disassemblying the machine and changing parts we found a bridge beetween pins 2 and 3 of the power on led connector (the one that goes in front of the machine). This bridge connection was not there on another 8500 we had before. Cut the bridge and the system installs even with the DayStar board !! No more bombs !! (Well, almost...) Other users that experience a totally erratic and instable behaviour with their 8500 might take a look at this connector. All the best Fulvio Massini
