"... the Mac.Ars site of the week..
Thanks so much, Mike, for maintaining your wonderful XLR8YOURMAC.com web site, the FAQs, and the stellar Knowledge Bases. I devote 5-10 minutes out of my day, no matter what, to read the site, and it's kept me up to speed on everything Macintosh of any importance for years. I know it's sometimes a thankless task to run your one-man show, but please don't ever stop. Mac users like myself depend on your site more than you'll ever know.
"....your site has always been a tremendous an incomparable resource for all things macintosh. I have learned an incredible amount from your site, all the way from beige G3s up to my single 1.7ghz Digital Audio upgrade that I use at home. Thank you so much for everything you do at your site.
"...Thanks for the AWESOME "all things mac resource page". PRICELESS!!
"I encountered your forum while trying to find a firmware upgrade for my DVD DVR-107. The site and the forum is packed with valuable and accurate information and I should like to congratulate you on a job well done and to express my appreciation for the effort and time that has gone into this!
I would like to say a big thank you Mike for your incredible job. This site have been of an invaluable help for choosing and installing all the upgrade cards and drives on my old and trusty G3.
"Mike, as always, Thanks for a wealth of information and knowledge. I never went to school to repair macs, and because of this website I can now take my Mac apart and put it back together again! And not only my Mac, I fix my Churches computers now too. :)
Hi Mike, I appreciate you getting back to me. Without your site I would have been
totally lost. As I mentioned I have been looking for a Superdrive for ages,
but Apple have been very elusive about getting hold of one. It was only
through your site that I discovered that other drives could be used.
Everyone else I spoke to told me I would have to buy an external drive, but
my workspace is cluttered enough. Thanks for your time & help. You are a
credit to confused Mac owners everywhere.
Mike, out of all the sites I have utilised since switching to Apple, yours is the most helpful and the clearest to follow.
I want to say that this web site is the best. I went and found a book called Mac Upgrade and Repair Bible and it is garbage compared to this web site. Thank you for running such a great site!
You are THE site I go to before I buy things for my mac! THANKS!!!!
(from drive database report)
I just discovered this site after 16 years with Mac machines. Terrific resource -- invaluable in just one week.
...this is the best mac site.
I live in remote outback Australia, about 850 kilometers (528 miles) from the nearest Mac Technician or Mac Repair shop. I need to be able to learn how and why to do these things to fix and maintain my Mac. Your pages are my instruction book for everything that I do. Keep up the brilliant work!!!!!
First, let me say that your site has been of great benefit to me and my Mac buddies. There's simply nothing out there like it. Keep up the good work!
To say that Mike's advice and walk-through columns are helpful is a vast understatement. I've done several upgrades that otherwise would have made me quite nervous about toasting my machine. Thanks again Mike for all your help, wouldn't have attempted any of it without you.
Thank you Mike for your huge commitment to placing your XLR8YOURMAC site
into a class far beyond any other Mac site - the quality and timeliness
of the info here is staggering. Many thanks to Kay for her willingness
to share you with us Mac "devotees."
I want to say what a great informative site this is. I won't buy or modify anything without researching here first. Kudo's Mike.
thanks Mike for a
great informative website which should be daily reading for all as it is for me.
Your site is invaluable to me, I check it every day and never fail to learn something useful.
Wow, I've learned a lot from this site, particularly from the news, tutorials, and the discussion forums. Thanks xlr8yourmac.
It was invaluable in helping me find the PowerLogix card I've been using for almost a year. Kudos to the FAQ, the User Database and PowerCenter information!
Now your site has helped me again. ...last night when I (on a lark) visited your FAQ again and came across the "PCI Timing Update" information. I downloaded it AND IT WORKS! A piece of softward developed in 1997 has solved my Quicktime and MP3 audio problems!
I'm so happy right now; I just had to write and thank you and your
I rely completely on your site for info that, as a graphic professional and avid gamer, I could not obtain elsewhere. I thank you whole-heartedly for helping make my millenium!
Your site is the best example of information-based web sites I have ever seen. It's clear, concise and friendly, not to mention the fact that your banner ads are pertinent Thanks for the site!
Thanks for all the work you do on your web site. It's a prerequisite read for anyone who considers upgrading his or her Mac.
This is the Greatest Mac Optimizing Site EVER!!!
Mike, this is definately the best mac site. hope it never gets so boring for you
that you decide to give it up, it would be a great loss to the mac
community. I'd have to say that over the past couple years I've learned more
about my macs from this site than anywhere else. thanks for all your hard
Your site is so well done, its hard to believe it's a one man show.
Mike, I have spent hours reading through your site trying to get my old 8500 up
to the task of editing digital video. You have saved me hours of
frustration & made the upgrade process as painless as it possibly could be.
" Mike, I know you get a crushing volume of email, but I thought I'd send along a little note of thanks....It was largely thanks to your site that I was finally able to buy a new CPU and commit to a new job.
this is just a personal note of thanks for all the great info
from your site. It allowed me to settle my nerves about the purchase, and
indeed, whether I could take on a major job like this. I know that as long
as I keep up with the info on your site, I'm always informed about the state
of the art, and ways to maximize the potential of the Mac platform.
Thanks for your hard work. I 'enjoy' your site every day,
because I have a 8100 with G3 card, now I own a G4AGP, but knowing problems
and in the US you know the problems before us is important to prevent them.
(Sometimes I wonder how can one person manage such volume every day). I'm
not an expert in hard and software. But knowing a site where some experts
are present is very healthy.
Mike, No doubt this is the finest Mac site on the web..
First of all, I bow to you with the deepest appreciation for what you have
created here. This is hands down the finest resource center I have ever
encountered in 15 years of working with computers. Thanx Mike! If I can ever
return the favor, drop me a line anytime.
As the owner of a Wallstreet 250/160 mb ram with "whiny" IBM 4gb drive
who has been considering changing my drive, I can't thank you enough for
your thoughtful and clear article...
All I really wanted to do was say thanks
again for all the work you do and time you spend replying to folks like me.
It means a lot and it makes a difference. I'll say it again, apple should put
you on the payroll!
Keep up the great work. Personally I think Xlr8yourmac is the best mac
site I have seen on the web.
Mike once again a word of thanks to you and your ever patient wife. You've
helped so many of us stay married and keep our Mac's scream with
Keep up the good work with the site. I am a daily visitor.
Thanks as always for the great site. I've started my mornings with you for
years, and the information just keeps getting better and better.
You're obviously very dedicated. One sees a lot of sites start to slacken
off with time - it's obvious that the maintainers lose their motivation. But
in your case you seem to be doing more and more all the time.
I love this site, I read it every day for all the latest info. So far from knowledge learned here i have over clocked my 266 processor to 300, added a Maxtor 13.6 7200 rpm Hard Drive, added more ram and every other conceivable tweak you can think of. The Hard Drive was one hell of an improvment. I just wanted to thank you for all the great info. And i also researched the Mitsumi CDRW here before i went back to the store and purchased it.
Your writing was lucid and precise. Though my G3 is a 233 beige desktop rather than a tower, I got my new 20G Maxtor up and running this evening with no adrenaline rushes - just the way I like it!
I appreciate all the time and effort you went to in order to post such
thanks for all the work you do on your site, it has helped me
tremendously in becoming a Mac consultant
Keep up the good work. Take some time for yourself and Kay now and again.
Congratulations....the Mac community obviously reads, and relies on, your web
pages to a huge degree...
thanks for keeping up a super site. I truly believe it is the definitive source for anything Macintosh!
You have one of the best technical
Mac web sites around and it is MUCH appreciated!!! Keep up the
"Mike, yours is a first rate site; I read it everyday, and the value of the information here is unrivalled. My sincerest compliments!
Again thanks for responding so promptly and helpfully. I am awed at the time
you took and your amazing knowledge about all things mac. May
http://www.xlr8yourmac.com and you continue to thrive.
I have written you in the past for recommendations or info and was always
amazed that you actually took the time to respond to my requests. You are
one of the major reasons why, when someone asks me, what is so great or different about the Mac, I always mention the people that use them. I didn't want the Christmas season to go by without letting you know how muchyou are appreciated by the semi-novice user as well as the pro. Thank you for all your help and thanks also to your wife for letting you be you.
We all revere your commitment to the Macintosh community and
are thankful we have such a great resource as we do.
Great site, chock-full-'o-useful-information. This is the site I check out first when I want to find out anything about making a mac faster.
" As always, I feel at a loss to fully express my appreciation and gratitude to you for all your efforts on behalf of your readers and the Mac community. In the same way that people calculate the portion of their lives spent sleeping, eating or even waiting at stop lights, it would be interesting to determine the daily, weekly etc. totals regarding not just the number of hits to your site but the actual number of hours spent by your readers at the site. I know that I check into your site at least four times a day and what, with reading the news and checking the message boards and staying current with the reviews etc, I probably spend well over an hour and a half each day and some days more.
The point is simply that in considering the thousands of hours a day
that people spend at your site that you can recognize how meaningful
your efforts have become. Most peoples' lives never become that useful.
Just wanted to say thanks to you for putting together a wonderful site.
I appreciate your extensive coverage of the new Yosemite G3 and the Unreal performance page.
I've found more useful information here in the last two days than I have in the last month using other resources. Keep up the fine work and thanks a lot!
Mike, you're unbelievable.
Mike, Having now become a regular reader at your site I continue to be
amazed at the breadth of information that you've accumulated there; not just
the quantity but also the quality, timeliness and relevance to many of us
who are interested in doing more than just 'using' stock Macs. I now know
already, along with photos, how to put a second drive in the G3 B&W that I
don't quite yet own!!
I'd also just like to add that like so many others, I'm a major fan of your
site - I check in at least twice a day to see what's new, and find the
advice and information you provide to be the absolute best Macintosh
resource on the net (have to say I was thrilled to actually get an e-mail
from you!). I held off on buying the Rail Gun card until you had reviewed
it, which I'm sure is the case for your other readers. Keep putting in the hard work
for all our sakes, but most of all for the sake of the Mac.
Thanks for one of the most informative sites on the net. It's nice to have
someone who actually appreciates the Mac. It's unbelievable how much work you do
on this site!
You've helped me out in a zillion ways with your website. I always
check your site for reviews and comparisons before buying something.
I work at a Mac only store in Berkeley
California (as you might know) and when people want a real deeper
understanding of some aspects of their macintoshes i send them here.
thanks again, much appreciated
GREAT site (don't know where else I could get a 100mhz upgrade for free). Really, though, it's top notch -- the sort of professional hardware hacker stuff that the PC users always claim us Mac folks are too dumb to touch. Piffle. I now outperform a P3. ;)
I'm sitting here, basking in the glow (radiation?) of a
brand-spanking-new Radius Intellicolor 20/e 20 inch monitor that I
ordered from eMarketLive 2 weeks ago. I must say that if I hadn't read
your news that fateful day, I would never have discovered that I could
grab one of these things for $309. I also never would have learned that
I could get an Ultimate Rez from MacMall for $199. Both are lovingly
plugged into my Performa 6400 now, and I am damn happy. It pays to
visit XLR8YourMac everyday!
Just wanted to let you know, that if my wife knew the devotion I
have to your web page and the stuff I buy because of it.....hasta la
vista to me baby....I LOVE YOU MAN!
Thanks again for your highly useful web page, it's helped me on numerous
occasions. The Mac community owes a lot to you for having such an
important resource. Keep up the good work.
I'd just like to say how much I enjoy your site. You do a great job
of frequently updating and finding news. It is the best Mac site on the
"I’ve learned more about hardware upgrades from your site in a few months than I did in several years from Macworld magazine."
Love, love, love your site! I keep telling more people and forums about
it. Now that you're focusing on the Wall Street within days of my
getting one, my interest is super-high. Your reviews are so much more
informative than MacWeek or MacWorld.
i really appreciate the work you do on your site...i hit it at least
twice a day. By far the best site around for the Mac...so thank you!
Your site has proven invaluable to me again and again as I go into budgeting with many 8500's to be
"You should do a special column for Macworld, Mike - they could sure use
your expertise. We in the graphics community are grateful for your reviews."
I just want you to know that your site is great - It is now one of my first
stops everyday (news and forums.) It has truly answered a lot of my
questions, and helped me in the purchase of a new Mac. I've always been the
kind of guy that wants 'just the facts ma'am' when I'm doing research; give
me numbers, whether it's 1/4 mile ET on a motorcycle, 40-yd times in a
football player, or CPU benchmarks, give me the numbers and I'll draw my
own conclusions, rather than read some BS review. My kinda site.
"Just wanted to send you a quick congrats message on the success of your pages. I used to visit MacInTouch first every morning but the past couple of months Accelerate Your Mac has become the first stop of my day.
I can't tell you how many times the answers to my questions have been found within your pages. You also have been very gracious in answering all of my emails promptly and always with a helpful tip or two.
"I just linked to your site for the first time (from MRP); I'm astounded at the breadth and depth of your reviews. Amazing, and thank you!"
"Mike, I can't thank you enough for your constant help through this whole ordeal. I don't know what I would've done without your support. One thing's for sure: I wouldn't be MacBenching over 1100 right now! =)
"Just a quick note to thank you for having a truly first rate resource
that has quickly become a mainstay for my web travels. Your patience and
dedication to answering e-mail (even my stupid questions) is without
equal. Keep up the fantastic work.
"I really appreciate your site. It’s guys like you who help me keep the Mac spirit alive."
"Your site is the 8th wonder of the
"It would not even occurred to me that I, a mechanical "all
thumbs", could upgrade the speed and efficiency on this old box had I
not discovered your site on the internet. Your technical information is
presented in such a way that it inspires confidence and invites
exploration by the novice. I've loved my Macs and Mac clones for over a
decade but now that I'm learning what I can do with a little
information, patience and spirit of adventure I appreciate them even
more. Thanks for opening up a whole new world for me.
"Thank you for taking time in your overloaded schedule to reply to my email
promptly and personally. Your devotion is a refreshing change in a quagmire of
impersonal form letters and mechanized responses. Please accept my undiluted
admiration and appreciation."
seriously, i'd be a sheep without a shepard if it wasn't for your work on xlr8yourmac. keep the faith.
"I can't say enough how pleased I am with the depth of the 220's review.
It is such a pleasant change from most others (reviews in general, that
is) which seem like recycled press releases.
"I read your site many times a day, like your other fans. I like your
site because you report the experiences people _actually_ are having
with the latest software & hardware, instead of simply regurgitating all
the promises and rumors put forth by the press and manufacturers. what
you report means a lot more to me.
First, congratulations on your site anniversary. This site helped me a
lot. A year ago I knew very little about upgrading RAM, L2, and nothing
about Ultra Wide SCSI. Today, I'm asked frequently to upgrade Macs for
other people. I learned all that stuff from your site!
"I just went through a round of upgrades on my PowerWave and I couldn't
have done it as easily or cheaply as I did w/o your site. Thanks alot.
"Thanks for the most informative site available for the mac.
"Thanks for your devotion to bringing the most wanted items to all mac users. Your site is the one I must visit everyday.
"Thank you so much for making XLR8yourMac. I couldn't imagine a better
source for Mac unbiased hardware tests and performance issues.
"Just thought I'd drop you a line and let you know how easy it was to
upgrade to a Raid level-0... After reading you reviews it was a snap.
Thanks for all your great price tips and resources.
"Thanks for the great site. I'm addicted. I probably check it for updates
more times a day than I eat!
"Thanks for a great read. This is the kind of geeky reviewing Byte and PC Magazine were known for way back when.
"I would like to thank you for giving me the confidence and technical
guidance (thru your website) to continuously upgrade my ever faithful
7500. You have already saved me hundreds
of dollars in hardware selection and labor charges while at the same
time increased my knowledge of this great machine (dare I say friend?).
You are my first visit in the morning and my last at night.
You are what more people should be like.
"I just found your descriptions about removing the cache. They would have
saved me hours of frustration. Even at this point, they answered a question.
I forgot to reattach the speaker! You certainly do all of us a great service.
"First of all, I must salute you for your unparalleled effort in keeping the information on your extensive web site current and helpful. Not only do you keep your readers well-informed, but you provide the BEST hardware reviews I've yet to see (better than MacWorld's). I just don't know how you do it all.
Thanks for your help and the new information you provide me
with on a daily basis. You are most definitely the Elvis of Mac
"I would love to contribute to your
amazing site. It has been a joy to read and I have learned a
TON from it! Thank you for all of your great work!
Thanks for the unbelieveable site, you've been incredibly helpful in the
past, and saved me at least a couple of hundred dollars.
"Thank you for your pages, my first choice when I link to the Net.
"I have found your reviews and commentary to be indispenable,
more accurate and unbiased then any other source I have found.
Keep up the good work and thanks for being here on the web.
"I want to personally thank you for your blood, sweat and tears
over keeping 'Accelerate Your Mac' professionally up-to-date and
unbiased. Thank you very much."
"Just wanted to say thanks for the most useful site on the net
for Mac owners looking to upgrade. Our entire office visits the
site daily and we have all learned a lot. You've saved us many
dollars and hours with honest evaluations on upgrade products.
I recommend the site to all our business associates. Keep up the
" I visit your web site at least once a day and find it beyond
helpful to increasing my knowledge of hardware issues. I consider
your opinion expert in everyway and you always return e-mails
quickly. A very rare combination on the web.
Great site you have. This is the only site that I
visit 2 or 3 times a day.
"Keep up the good work. Your site is right up there with Ric Ford's
Macintouch site for must-check status.
"I truly like your reviews, because they
look at all aspects of a cards performance, looking at benefits and
possible negatives of cards. I enjoy reading your page everyday, as it
is always one of my first morning reads. I also look forward to buying
a G3 upgrade card soon, and feel that I will be an informed consumer
after having access to the information in your reviews and the forums.
Thanks again for all of the hard work!
"This is the first time I have visited your site. My congratulations. In
fact, you are offering a tremendous service to those of us who only know
enough about the technical matters to get a quality video out the door.
Thanks. Thanks. Thanks.
"First off, I think that you are doing a great job with your site. It's
one of two I read daily...allright, somtimes I miss Saturdays!
"It is very helpful to find a site that you can trust. The Newer
vs XLR8 comparison was very interesting, informative and definitely
will affect my purchase decision."
"Mike, thanks for your site. It is very well done and is of great
service to the Mac community.
"Wow, what an excellent resource! I read your review, and surfed over and bought one! Fan - freakin - tastic!
I just had to email you about how GREAT your G3 200/110 card review
was. I just found your site last month and haven't missed reading it a
single day since. It's a must! Keep up the outstanding
work—I admire your work ethic.
"Glad to finally find a site with real technical information -
not fluff and condesending tones...keep up the great work!
"By far the best site on the net for Mac performance hardware
reviews. The cache tutorial saved me a lot of money, as did the
cpu and cache reviews. I visit the site several times a day, keep
up the good work!"
"Your page is very informative and helpful. It is bookmarked and
will be visited again and again."
"Excellent site. Very useful information. I will base much of
my 8500-accelerator purchase decision on your reviews."
"You've done a good job and are offering good information... It's
great to have this information now, rather than having to wait
every month for my magazines to arrive. Thanks, I will recommend
your site to my peers."
I think your page is GREAT! It's nice to see someone sending "real"
world results for readers. This makes it an easier choice for
the consumers. Keep up the good work.
